Not that I'm saying I did it the "correct" way, but it worked =)
One thing, in case you haven't read the release notes yet -- the first time you get in world with the new client, your inventory will not load. So get in, then Quit, then go back in again.

thanks for the help, i ended up doing the same thing. evidently the update will delete unwanted files I did read the notes that mention the inventory bug. the strange thing is i did not encounter that. my inventory was there from the start. weird. so far the only problem i've been having is just when editing/moving object... they will occasionally "shoot/take off" suddenly and even end up meters away! Anyway, going to bed see you's tomorrows! ~polkie~

I didn't have a problem with my inventory either. I was plesantly surprised when my character and the entire view loaded almost instantly. I'm no longer starting in the welcome area server, so that might be it too..

rambly thoughts

Well, from what little I got to see of the new client, it looks pretty good.
I really liked the new "keep chatting" button at the bottom. I'm getting better about it, but I still frequently forget to hit Enter before typing, so I end up jumping up and down, etc. when I don't mean to =)
I wish the installation had kept my previous settings -- I had to reset the windowed mode, and of course enter my name and password again. Small things, of course -- on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is "no pain" and 10 is "vascectomy without anesthesia", I'd rate those at about a 2.5.
I did crash a couple of times -- the first time the autoreporter attempted to do its job, but wasn't able to in the end (any chance that's because my dr watson log is too big? if so I'll clear it out). Another crash was a full core dump (rare in win2k server, but I do get them occasionally) -- this one I'm not necessarily blaming on the client, as it could well have been something else funky going on in my system.
Had an enormous amount of lag with packet loss (sometimes 100% packet loss -- mostly in the welcome area). It was so bad it was lagging my husband off HIS game on his system, which hadn't ever happened with the old client. Is the new one coded to attempt to use more bandwidth than the old one was? If so, should I set in my preferences a lower amount than I actually have?
Oh, one last thing -- I liked most of the new sound effects that I heard, with one exception -- hearing the typing sound when "so and so is online" and "so and so is offline" was a bit annoying (same scale as before: level 3.5). I kept waiting to see who was *talking* whenever I'd hear that.
