ok, here's the deal. no matter how i've tried, i can't get the video capture function to work. i've tried it in full screen, 640x480, and the smaller windowed mode even, but nothing. it asks me where i want the video to be put and when i hit stop, there is no file.

running on windows xp SP1, and i've got memory to spare on the motherboard(1gig), and a decent helping on my geforce fx 5200(128mb). now, any ideas if this is second life or windows goofing me?

Use FRAPS instead, it's ten times better. It saves framerate-accurate video (so you don't get any "silent film" effect with everything moving 100 miles an hour) and sound.

There are some problems with long pathnames, so create a directory like C:\slmovie\ and record there.

Also, if you haven't installed an extra codec, you'll have trouble recording even at 640x480 - most of the codecs that come with windoze are really outdated and only support much smaller resolutions. Get XVid, DivX or WMV9 and encode using one of these.

FRAPS is still much better, because it has it's own codec thats optimized for simultaneous encoding while playing (uses a resonable disk-transfer / cpu-load ratio). If you buy it (only 30 US$) you also get audio recording.

Specifically regarding long pathnames, don't pick anything related to Documents and Settings or My Documents... Docs & Settings controls My Docs, Desktop, and App Data.

I believe it's part of XP's private files setup, but don't hold me to it. Put them in some scratch directory somewhere.

It's probably a problem with spaces in the pathname.
