We're using iMac with Mac OS X, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The SL version we used was 1.19.1 and we didn't like to update it since it was working perfectly fine until today it's required to update to 1.22.11 in order to continue.

After installation of the 1.22.11, we can't login again anymore, always resulting in "Unable to connect to Second Life. Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has gone wrong." etc.... I've tried removing the "SL folder" under ~/Library/Application Support/ as mentioned in other thread, but still no luck.

Then also tried with the SL life support which isn't useful at all, only asking me for XP .. O.o..(omg)

==============================
Corinne Ontyne: Hello Klug_Kuhn, what can I help you with?
Klug_Kuhn: hello?
Klug_Kuhn: when i tried to login to SL today, it asked for a complusory update to 1.22.11. When the download and update completed, i'm unable to connect to SL anymore
Klug_Kuhn: i've tried with a few attempts with quiting SL etc... always resutling in the following message:
Klug_Kuhn: Unable to connect to Second Life.
Klug_Kuhn: Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has gone wrong.
Klug_Kuhn: Please check www.secondlife.com/status to see if there is a known problem with the service.
Klug_Kuhn: Is there any grid down now? or if it's possible to use other version of SL ?
Klug_Kuhn: Btw, i've also tried with 2 different machines, and both are running Mac OS X, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Corinne Ontyne: Sorry I am dealing with several residents at once and that is why I might be delayed in answering the chat.
Corinne Ontyne: Let me check this for you.
Klug_Kuhn: ty
Corinne Ontyne: I have just checked the grid and there is nothing wrong at the moment.
Klug_Kuhn: so is 1.22.11 complusory? could i use other version to login?
Corinne Ontyne: you could use the older version if it makes things easier for you .
Klug_Kuhn: ok, i will try that and see ..
Corinne Ontyne: Ok let me know how it goes, Klug.
Klug_Kuhn: sure trying now ..
Klug_Kuhn: there are so many older version @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions
Klug_Kuhn: which one should i try?
Corinne Ontyne: I think the 1.21, Klug.
Klug_Kuhn: just tried 1.21.6, same issue :S
Klug_Kuhn: i'm now trying 1.20.17
Klug_Kuhn: no... when i tried with 1.20.17, it asked me that i must download the required version 1.22.11.113941 in order to use SL ...
Klug_Kuhn: so it means that my machine no long works for SL?
Corinne Ontyne: Ok let me send you some instructions on how to make sure you have uniinstall the older version completely, Klug.
Klug_Kuhn: ok thx
Corinne Ontyne: Have you got XP or Vista or do you have a Mac?
Klug_Kuhn: not directly.. but i could use Parallel to run XP
Klug_Kuhn: but not Bootcamp
Corinne Ontyne: Ok , open C:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and delete the contents of your Temp folder.
Klug_Kuhn: you mean i should use XP now?
Corinne Ontyne: if possible!
Corinne Ontyne: Open C:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life and delete the contents of the Cache folder
Corinne Ontyne: Uninstall Second Life using the Add/Remove Programs tool in your Windows Control Panel.
Corinne Ontyne: Visit http://secondlife.com/download and download and install the latest release.
Klug_Kuhn: ok, but i've never installed a SL on XP, is it still relavant?
Corinne Ontyne: XP is just the operating system . Do yo have a Mac or a PC?
Klug_Kuhn: Mac, as i mentioned eariler i've also tried with 2 different machines, and both are running Mac OS X, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Klug_Kuhn: before we were using 1.19.1, but it's a must to use 1.22.11... so nothing works now
Klug_Kuhn: and we've never installed SL in XP under Parallel
Klug_Kuhn: maybe you should ask someone who knows about SL for mac?
Corinne Ontyne: Yes this is what I am trying to find out for you!
Klug_Kuhn: ok, i'm now in Parallel, and there is no SecondLife folder (as excepted as i've never installed SL in XP) ....
Klug_Kuhn: prehaps i would ask in the forum instead?
Corinne Ontyne: I think your best option would be to send a ticket in and the we can have a Mac specialist look at it.
Klug_Kuhn: right,.. i'll ask from other mac users in the forum first, then submit a ticket thereafter, thx for your time~
==============================

2 hours later, i tried installing SL first time in XP under parallel. Installation was ok with no error. However, as soon as SL starts loading, it shuts down by itself. The shut down was smooth and no crashing on the computer at all - it just shuts down, can't even load the login screen.

Does someone have any suggestion? Thx~

You might try turning your entire system off, computer, router, modem, etc. for a few minutes, and then logging in at a different location.

Problem still persists with standard viewer 1.22.11. But i'm now in with coolviewer 1.19. Just in case if someone gets the same issue, could try CV 1.19 @ http://hyangreflections.blogspot.com/

that's why as per title ....

i fired a ticket for the 1.22.11 issue, got a few reply. Solutions summary as below:

================================
Reply 1
... completely remove your current installation of the second life viewer and remove any remaining files in the following directory:

c:\users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife
- Please note that this directory may be hidden

Please then download and install the latest version of the SL viewer. ...
---------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts:
Well, i've told them i'm using mac os and apparently they gave me instruction on windows ... sigh ..

... Can you un-install your current installation of the second life viewer and remove any remaining files in the following directory:

/Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/SecondLife

Please then download and install the latest version of the SL viewer. ...
---------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts:
I've also told them on the ticket initially that i've done that ... sigh ..

... Please could you flush your DNS cache to see if this corrects the problem:

- type lookupd -flushcache in your terminal to flush the DNS resolver cache.

Please also check that your internet routers firewall may be configured correctly. The following knowledgebase article explains what ports need to be available to run Second Life.

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=4355 ...
---------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts:
The command in the terminal does not even work, resulting:
-bash: cdcdlookupd: command not found

In regard to the firewall, it has already been allowing all incoming connections at the very beginning.. sigh ..

And now no more reply "work in progress". Luckily i could get in from CV 1.19 ... >.<
