Okay so I downloaded the new client, 1.19.1.4, in hopes it would increase my already low (talking about 10-20 FPS) performance. Truth is, it is now less than half of what I used to have. Setting settings to lowest or ultra does not make a difference at all, I still keep getting an average of 4-6 FPS, and this is staring to the sky (well with my quite low-prim skybox behind me).
So yes, performance was halved or more, but it does not crash the client. And I think my computer should be moooore than enough to run SL.
SL reports this setup: CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2303 MHz) Memory: 8190 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 3870 OpenGL Version: 2.1.7412 Release
True specs as follows: AMD Phenom X4 9600, TLB patch disabled Kingston 8 GB DDR2-800 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 2x Sapphire ATI HD3870 in Crossfire mode Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, with Catalyst 8.3
Is there any hidden setting or something, other than downgrading to 1.19.0? Because I can run Crysis at medium settings, but SL can't?

newest ATI drivers? running software like skype/msn/icq... beside? If you are not connected directly to internet but running a router with firewall functions, try to switch off your windows firewall

Newest ATI drivers are Catalyst 8.3. And I sure don't have any IM program in the backgroun (sure okay maybe Steam), since it's just a gaming computer and all. That computer is indeed hooked up to a router, but I don't see how would that affect performance.
EDIT: Also UAC, Windows Security Center, Windows Firewall and Windows Defender are all disabled.

Ive got a brand new top of the range pc, with enough ram/graphic card power to run the PC as a gaming pc alongside being logged into SL, but the new viewer changes etc are bad!
Ive gone from looking like I was in the real world (or as close as SL can get it) to looking like I jumped out of a 1980's nintento Mario game. Pixels and smudges everywhere. I have more than enough space on the pc to deal with this and all SL settings reflected this. I reverted to the old viewer and suprise suprise it was fixed!
It works for some, not for others? But more often the new viewer doesnt work! And they cant blame our PC's because people like myself who GAME ALOT and have upto date boosted PC's KNOW for a fact that it is NOT us that are the issue!
Its a case of dont fix it if it aint broke! But people as always act before they think

There is your issue... you're using an x64 platform.
I was using XP Pro x64 and Vista Ultimate x64 and my fps in lots of games were HORRID. Including SL which was herky jerky.
I switched back to 32bit platform and viola, smooth as a babies bottom.
Granted, I had to sacrifice a good amount of my usable ram because 32 bit doesn't see more than 3gb.. 4 with some sketchy tweaks, but 3gb+ you're not really seeing a difference at the moment.
I'm running a 3.3ghz Pentium Dual Core with 4gb of Ram on a 30mb/5mb Cable connection with no router. nVidia 8800 GTS (640mb version) and the Asus P5B-Deluxe MoBo.
Granted yes, the new viewer probably has some bugs, but if you were to switch to a 32bit OS it'd run smoother. x64 platforms don't handle 3d game applications all that spiffy currently. Not saying all games have issues with x64, but some.

From: papa Tulip newest ATI drivers? running software like skype/msn/icq... beside? If you are not connected directly to internet but running a router with firewall functions, try to switch off your windows firewall Don't turn off your firewall ... Period.. Go to the exceptions tab in the Firewall and make sure SecondLife.exe and SLVoice.exe are both selected, if they are not there, Add them using the Add Programme button, navigate to those programmes and select them (one at a time, don't select the shortcuts). Turn off (unselect) all other programmes, there maybe some programmes listed there you may not recognise, they can be exploit programmes, your Virus checkers etc do not need to be checked.

Just my .02 Where do people keep getting these urban myths from .... What you say is 100% nonsense. Performance drops in a 64 bit environment are caused by one major thing and that's bad drivers. I had Vista 64 and Vista 32 running side by side and guess what? They both perform identically and my system is very close to yours. Oh, and don't say "3.3Ghz Pentium" - that says nothing at all. Give us the CPU type. I use a E6600 and a E9300.

Try the viewer offered by ONREZ- I have both the 'official issue' and the Onrez installed and I seem to get better performance from the the latter, even with identical graphic and audio settings. (of course, that is assuming the grid comes back up!)
