I have a quick question....I know this may sound stupid but here goes....My husband and I each have our own computers at home and we have a DSL modem and a wired router....I seem to be crashing a lot on SL lately and I am trying to pinpoint the problem...what's weird though is when he is home during the day and on by himself he rarely crashes and when I am on by myself I rarely crash...it seems like we only crash when we are on together...so my question is could the DSL or the router have anything to do with the crashing....(sorry for sounding so computer illiterate). Thank you so much for any and all advice, and or suggestions you have.
PS..It says that it has 3.20Ghz and 1GB of RAM if that helps at all

I would say your internet is too slow. what speed do you have? I know I crashed all the time when my roommates were playing WOW back when I had 3 meg but after upgrading to 10 meg not much of a problem till last few days

Run a speed test

If you don't know what speed internet you have you could run a speed test, I like: http://www.speedtest.net/The numbers from a speed test can really very earlier today I ran one and didn't get over 1000k download and 160k upload. That is horrible for 10 meg which is why I looked. Now I'm getting 10532k by 980k which is about right. DSL is supposed to be dedicated so your neighbors won't affect your speed, however DSL is usually not quite as fast, though that depends a lot on your area and service providers. if you could run a speed test while one or both of you is logged into SL and see the difference, that may also explain it.

From: someone so my question is could the DSL or the router have anything to do with the crashing....( Yes that is your problem most likely. Are you both using different port #'s in your clients? If not try that. Jack in the box routers completely suck @%^&&#@@@# dont matter who you buy them from they just suck and nothing beats a true computer box router. Try setting your port #'s to different ports via preferences/network. See if this helps. Bandwidth will not be the issue cuz its very rare that both of yas are sucking up that much bandwidth at the exact same time. And the fact that people dont relize that their client is rarely ever even running full speed EVER. SL's client has a automatic bandwitdh throttle in it which you never see jumping up or down. The Bandwidth slider in your network tab is just a 'maximum' bandwidth slider it dont mean you'll be going that fast 24/7. Im on a wifi router myself and Ive tried everything and I still crash bottom line is its your NAT router. if you can pull it off get a 2nd IP from your DSL company and then just use a hub and totally eliminate the NAT translation. But try using different port #'s see if that helps. try port forwarding as well so each of you have a static route for the data flow. Example Client #1 port 13001 IP 192.168.1.2 Client #2 port 13002 IP 192.168.1.3 as your port forwarding table, then just set each computer using the client to a 'static' IP and dont use DHCP and then it will but thats getting into some major details try just setting your port # inside the client first see if that helps to different #'s
