It might help if you provided some more information such as:
sound card model sound card driver operating system DirectX version
Things to check:
1. Check the Support_&_Services --> Knowledge_Base section of the SL website for info on similar problems.
2. If your soundcard driver is not up to date, you should update it.
3. If your installed DirectX is lower that 8.0 you should upgrade.
If those are not helpful then more things to try (one at a time):
A. Reinstall the SL client. Does the problem persist?
B. Reinstall your sound-card drivers. Does the problem persist?
Whether those steps help or not, please post back to this thread and let us know the outcome. Good luck.

eeewww... if it was just a defective module, and you bought it at a store (fry's!) less than 15 days ago, you should just be able to return it and get a working one. if you bought it online, check out the online store's RMA policy, and i wish you luck in returning the memory... chances are you'll need it

do not buy memory at frys ... ever.
Even if someone is holding a gun to your head, because what you will experience afterwards will make you wish you were dealing with people as reasonable as the residents and administrators of hell.

bah. this system i'm on has 1GB of the cheapest 512MB PC2100 modules available at fry's, and my server has 1.25GB of PC133 memory, 512MB of which is the cheap fry's stuff, and it's been dead nuts reliable. in fact, i've even been able to crank up the memory timing on this PC2100... it's supposed to be CAS2.5, and i've bumped it up to CAS2 with no problems whatsoever, and have also increased the other memory timing settings with no adverse effects

First: you have been damn lucky. Second: My comment was more in reference to what you would have to do -if- something was wrong with the ram. I find crucial.com memory is nearly as cheap and 10 times as reliable. Ie I have had to return at least 3 of the 5 sticks of RAM bought at fry's, I have never returned any of the 20+ I have bought at crucial. And the ones at crucial have a better warrenty.

I'll second the crucial memory support.
I bought a 256MB Dimm from them about 2 years ago. 5 months later it went bad. within 2 days I had a new Dimm from them.
As for Fry's: Don't buy ANY hardware from them. They repackage all their returns as "display," copies figuring some people just wont bother to return them. Between personal and professional experiences, the only thing I buy from Fry's these days is DVD's and software.
With specific regards to their memory, I don;'t know where they get it, but have seen them argue that the memory DIMM they sold a coworker was "good" and they had installed it wrong when the half circle on the bottom of the DIMM wasn't even punched out.
I've also worked with former Fry's employees and they say the same thing: don't buy your hardware there.
