I've tried the regular SL viewer, Snowglobe, Emerald, and Cool Viewer. Neither of them work. When I load the viewer, before I log in, I check the voice device settings in the preferences and everything looks fine, it shows me the green bars saying that my mic is being picked up and works. When I log in, the "input level" setting just says "please wait..."

It's been like this for the past week. I'm not sure what the problem is.

CPU: Intel Pentium III/Pentium III Xeon (0.25 micron process) with external L2 cache (3000 MHz)
Memory: 2047 MB
OS Version: Professional (Build 7600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 9600 GT/PCI/SSE2
Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0011.9562
OpenGL Version: 3.2.0

libcurl Version: libcurl/7.18.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8j zlib/1.2.3
J2C Decoder Version: KDU
Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.750000
LLMozLib Version: [LLMediaImplLLMozLib] - 2.01.29386 (Mozilla GRE version 1.8.1.21_0000000000)

yeah i have a hell of a problem with voice in sl. Even nowadays its decidedly dodgy. Let me tell you what I do...I found that I needed to connect the headset to the pc before switching it on. Once pc running go to your sound/audio settings and configure the headset there. On SL you need to be in voice activated areas. The local chat usually tells you if that's so. The talk tab on bottom right needs to be activated and then on the communication tab bottom left, you can see who is talking. The green sound vibration above your head also tells you this. With my headphones I can talk ok and people can hear me, but I hear nothing from the set. SL sounds and others voices, still comes direct from the pc. It's no big deal because I rarely use voice anyway.
Good luck and happy new year!

>.> I've done all that. I'm not new to SL, been in for over 3 years, but thanks.

Takara, Did you ever solve your problem. I am having the same problem. I was running Vista and until the last update everything worked great. I have tried everything. I even restored my pc to the way it was from the factory. Everything indicated it was working but the talk Icon was greyed out. Nothing worked. So I went out and bought Windows 7, reinstalled the normal viewer, snowglobe, and emerald, still nothing.

Hello ^_^

Just a thought but, did you try to take a look at your soundcards controllpanel yet?
Usually, in the case of realtek soundcards which most mainboards nowadays have as onboard device, its in your tray where for example the connection icon is. Or go to windows' control panel and access it from there.
Maybe some setting there is jumbled up or the microphones volume is set to zero there... Well, its at least worth a try ^_^
And for those who have a realtek soundchip onboard and use your mainboard mabufacturers driver, it's always better to get one from the chipset manufacturer directly, cause, at least in realtek's case, they update their drivers more often and mainboard makers just grab drivers every now and then from them and then "brand" them more. well, often, but not always. The latest HD realtek driver right now should be v2.40

I am having the same problem. SL just refuses to connect to voice for me on my new system. It has nothing to do with sound devices or drivers seeing that my SL sound is fine, I am running on current drivers, and I have the proper devices selected under the voice options. I thought it might be a windows firewall issue but I have exceptions for both SL and SLvoice, and I've even tried turning windows firewall completely off. I'm assuming, that for me at least, its an issue regarding SL and Windows 7 64-bit.

here are my system specs for reference

- Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS
- AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz Quadcore CPU
- Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU
- 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM
- MSI 790FX-GD70 Motherboard
- Creative X-fi XtremeMusic Sound Card

Thanks, but this didn't work. Updated both AC'97 and HD Audio.

Okay, I solved the problem. It was the router. Not sure what about it, cause I don't have to open ports with the other router to use voice, but when I tried a different router, it worked. So.. I'm using that router. :3 If other people run into the same problem as me...try a different router and see if it works then. Good luck all. :3

My friend has the same problem. Both of their computers don't work with voice until one of them disconnects one of the routers.. and then one of them can get on voicechat.. but the other ones internet doesn't work.
