Unable to access Inventory

Since last server updates to 1.19.0.5 my avatar seems to be broken.

I can log in and my avatar would rez it's attachments. But that's it.

My shape is gone and I can not apply another one nor change my appearance because the client says something like "can not do this, until the shape is loaded."

I can not access my inventory eigher. Sometimes it would fetch a handfull of items so that I was able to try another shape once (whoth the above error message) but most of the time my inventory fetches no items at all, no matter how long I wait.

I received some objects from other avatars which seem to be lost too. At least I was not able to rez them in world when I received them and after the last successful fetch of my objects folder they were simply gone.

I know that this heavy bug does not affect everyone because my alt avatar has no such problems at all, which proves, that it is no problem with my client. I tried the official 1.19.0.5 client and the windlight firstlook. Same result, my avatar would simply not rez to a state where I stop looking horrible broken and where I could do anything.

Try this:

* start SL (but don't log in)
* Edit / Preferences
- under Network, click Clear Cache
- under General, check "Show Start Location"
* close SL
* start SL again (it'll clear the cache)
* under your name, in "Start Location", type: Hahne
* log on and just stay in the same sim
* open your inventory, type anything random and wait for it to finish fetching

If that works, but subsequent relogs without clearing the cache fail then there's something in your inventory cache that's the viewer is choking on.

If that doesn't work, there's not much chance anyone here will be able to offer much help. Start a support ticket and try to be as detailed as you, pointing out - repeatedly - that nothing you can do yourself will help (depending on who you get it can take a few tickets before they will stop using their "fix it all, get rid of the customer" copy/paste text).

The 1.18.x series still works as well, you don't *need* 1.19 so that could be another thing to try:

Hello Kitty

Thank you for your help

Clearing caches, settings, clean installs and things like this were the very first things I tried, withou any success. As far as I read in the issues tracker, this error happens from time to time and Linden offers no support for it. In fact they get angry if someone posts this serious bug in the issues tracker.

Right now I did exactly what you told me and got the exact same result as in every earlier try. The inventory starts fetching up to 565 items (of a few thousands) and stop at this very number each and every time.

I can not fill a support ticket because Linden won't support a basic account with anything regarding bugs and failures of their service. I could contact them If I failed to give them money, but not if mymoney is lost.

So at this point I am at the end of my posibilities and the only choice I see is to put my avatar into the trash can, if no one has another idea.

Oh, one more detail perhaps, which only happens with this account:

Each and every time I log in I get a message which I think should come only at the very first login after an account was created.

It says "Your avatar will appear in a few moments." And explains the use of F1 help.

Kind of a silly question, but have you reset all your filters in the Inventory? It's in the Inventory menu. Sometimes I accidentally forget to reset filters, then can't figure out why none of my objects or landmarks or whatever are loading.

Have you tried teleporting to a different sim, after waiting for a little while? Sometimes forcing the system to transfer your inventory to a different server can jog its memory.

Hi Oryx

Yes and yes

Means: Yes, I have reset filters, it simply stops fetching objects at a certain point. Ths does not mean it ENDs fetching with too few items, it means it STOPS fetching, it hangs while actually fetching and does not go on. I emptied the trash can and now instead of stopping at 565 at every try it stops at 650, lol.

I teleported around a bit, logging out and in but to no result yet. But this still is an option. I fear it is a "object missing from database error" which wont show up because its a shape or something like that. I definitely know that my shape is not loading.

i didn't have all the problems you are having but i have had the inventory problem
i read this here and it helped me

log in to cyclops
it is a quiet low-lag place under the ocean

then sit down and get comfy
:)

when the inventory appears to stop
type in one letter at a time

like type a and wait

then b

etc

it seems to jog the memory for lack of a better word

I remember reading a post from someone who has a single inventory item that would cause the viewer to choke on it. I'll try and look for it when I have more time.

From what I recall the details and fix that worked were very technical though, so even assuming it's the exact same problem I'm not sure if would actually simplify to a list of things to do :(.

Still no changes. The broken database obviously won't repair itself on its own and I cannot use my avatar at all nor rescue any of my self made items. And Linden support does what they can do best: Ignore their customers.

If anyone has another idea what I could do, please post it here.

Well I know how that goes...
I crashed and came back to no inventory at all save for the library...did the usual cache clears and relogs and no luck...had a friend login on his computer...no luck...did client reinstalls...no luck..after a few cache clears i too couldn't load my shape...but that's been corrected. And stuff that i get sent now...is being retained, but my years worth of inventory and memories is still mia...around 12k *it was time to trim again but that's excessive* I've heard other people paid accounts and non paid accounts have loss of this nature and the av is basically unplayable when you have to start over...and from all I've heard there are some people who had total inventory loss over 3months ago with outstanding tickets regarding this. As for being a free access acount I'm much in the same boat but I see it as...inability due to some LL reason...to be unable to access your account. I have tried logging in other av's and it's just the one that has suffered that fate so again I realize it's on LL's side, but I'm running out of things to try to get results..and I have no idea when Imight see assistance from the big L's so best of luck to you if I find a solution I'll try to let you know.

It stops at the same number every time???

That sounds like it's worthy of a new JIRA issue. Have you added one, Lona?

edit: Are you using a router/firewall? If so, what kind is it? Are you using wireless? Also, once it stops loading at 650, try changing you bandwidth setting in Preferences to be something - sometimes that's been known to wake up the viewer, though I don't really expect it will solve this problem.

Sorsha (welcome to the forums!) and Lona, you didn't mention completely deleting your local SL data, did you try that? It sounds like you may have different problems - Lona has a rather unusual inventory corruption issue, while Sorsha sounds like more classic inventory loss, which might be a local database problem. This is more likely to help Sorsha, but it's quick to try:

To delete your local SL data (you will have to reset your preferences afterwards):

In XP the folder is (delete the whole thing):
C:\Documents and Settings\<your userid>\Application Data\SecondLife

In Vista the folder is:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife
.

Also, Lona, Basic accounts can file a few types of support tickets, the infamous "Special Questions". I would try a support ticket in one of the two special ticket types:

>You are getting an error message that states you cannot log in from your location

> Your account has been disabled and you need it reactivated

Yes, your problem isn't exactly what they mean. But, effectively, your account is disabled, and/or you cannot fully log in. It cannot hurt to try.

Hello, nice to see people trying to help :-)

I managed to advance at least one step. I can change my appearance again and the silly message on each start is gone. But I still cannot access my Inventory.

What I did: Ctrl-Alt-D gives you an extended menu as I guess everyone here knows already. I tried Client->Character->Character Test->Test Male and Test Female and after 2 or 3 tries it finally let go of my broken shape and I got a male one. And I am now able to edit andsafe this appearance. Pheew, this was a huge step. Remember this trick if you ever loose the ability to edit your appearance.

Unfortunately the inventory is still broken.

And yes, I deleted the local settings too, but only for this avatar, maybe I should try further steps, like a clean install on another machine. I will report if I make any further advance,

Oh, btw. Yes I filed a ticket under "account shut off" already with the same thoughts. ;-) Result: It was deleted without comment.

Deleting everything did not help. And to answer the open questions: Firewall is off, Antivir is off and I am using a wired router with deactivated firewall. My Alt has no problems with the same constellation.

I'd add a new VWR bug in JIRA.

Make sure you're add the fact that it always stops loading at the same place in the subject - that will help get peoples attention..

Unless I misread, your inventory might be stopping at 565 not because it's choking on item 566 but because the asset server thinks 565 is everything you own. I thought I'd lost quite a few items for several days but they eventually came back without my doing anything.

The trick is to watch the top of the inventory window. If it still says "fetching.." it thinks there's more to get.

Same prob. here

Reported it in Forum 2 days ago, then a ticket yesterday.
This caused NOTHING from Linden, not even the confirmation mail that my problem had been recieved.

Bad bad bad service to the ones paying their salary.

Btw: My inventory stops loading at 565 items too.

I'm having the exact issue and it's all because of the new update I think. I was able to get onto SL with no problem a few days ago, but now it loads up and I can't access anything in my inventory, change my AV, and after sitting around in SL, the one AV I did have on disappears for some random skin I have underneath and the basic SL shape and hair.

I tried the cache thing and relogging, but that actually made it worse I think. Last night I was at least able to put on my regular skin and shape, but I can't even do that now.

I know it can't be something I did, since it worked perfectly before, but after the update, SL is practically unusable. At least I say it's unusable, since why even play if I can't attach anything?

As for the inventory itself, in the new viewer, it just says loading for each folder and it does nothing.

As Maede sayd: It freezes while fetching without result. There is a noticebale difference between freezing and regular ending of fetching. Try to fetch using the search method and you'll notice that at the end the "fetched" message changes and the search message changes too. Not to mention that the "loading..." flags on the folders should be gone and at least the fetched items should show up in the folders. None off this happens. It simply freezes and the database servers refuses any transactions.

@ Maxon

Fot the inability of changing your appearance, shape and so on, please read my post above. There you will find the trick to at least fix this problem. Unfortunately it does nothing to the database bug.

UPDATE!!!!

The problem seems to be FIXED!

It seems, that lost items in the transmission queue did it. When I logged in right now, I received alot of items from other players that were send a week ago, and after this my inventory fetches completely. Try your avatar, I wish you luck!
