Hijacked Sound Control

ARRRGH.

Most of the time, I play with the sound off, because there are a lot of really inconsiderate users who crank up their annoying, looped .wavs to the highest volume and blast them indiscriminately.

So I'm finally getting a chance to unwind after finals, and I've got the music cranked up -- and it's just not mixing that well with the drill sergeant shouting in my ear and the random gunfire thanks to some WWIIOL ad object right by my land on the Federal/Stanford border. (A hint, guys -- it's not making me want to join. Really it isn't. On the other hand, it's a GREAT advertisement for xenocide.)

This has been going on for days, and I'm fed up.

I can choose between Tchaikovsky-and-drill-sergeant or no-Tchaikovsky-and-no-sergeant, but I don't get to have Tchaikovsky WITHOUT the <content deleted by management> <content deleted by management> of a <content deleted by management> <BALEETED> drill sergeant.

Is there any way I can turn down SL's volume WITHOUT it taking control of my WAV/MP3 settings? Because, you know, that REALLY sucks.

Thanks, folks.

I think this was also in feature suggestions - that SL doesn't have its own master volume and instead just takes over the master volume of the PC. I too would like the volumes to be seperate.

Have you tried adjusting the volume levels on the Audio tab of your Preferences dialog? It's accessible from your login screen.

(I don't think this should affect your MP3 playback, but I can't tell for certain; my sound card is incompatible with SL, so I can't hear anything in-world anyway.)

It might be a good idea for SL to include a way to mute sound in-world. More and more people are finding sound annoying, and a mute option could reduce the server load by avoiding the need to send all that data to the client.

That is the complaint Jake, the main volume slider in the audio tab adjusts your system volume, not a specific SL volume. Which means it will turn down your MP3 player too. :/
