Hi everyone,

This is my first post on the forums even though I've been on SL for 2+ years, so I'm sorry if this is on the wrong section of the forums.

I'm wondering if someone can help me please? - I'm not very technical so please bear with me!

I use a desktop PC to play SL but I am looking into buying a laptop. I want to be able to play SL on the laptop so I was hoping someone can help me find the right specs I need so that it runs smoothly and looks good too.

I want Windows 7 and a Graphics card but I don't understand all the different types and numbers of the graphics cards.

My budget is about £600 max which I think is roughly about $900.

Can anyone advise me, or even better point me to something that would be suitable on a website such as ebuyer.com?

I'll give you a nice in-world hug! :-D

Thanks very much!!
Claz.

If SL is your primary concern, don't get a laptop, buy a desktop. It will last longer, be upgradeable, cost less, and SL won't burn it up in 6 months due to heat stress. And whatever you do, make sure your graphics are not ATI.

Thing is - I am getting a new desktop, but I also want a laptop as well.

I won't be using it just for SL but want SL to be able run on it.

I havent had an issue with ATI graphics cards for laptops on SL. I have one with a HD3000 series and have had nothing but excellent quality from it.

My preference is Nvidia, but i havent had an issue with ATI.

The current Nvidia models are listed at http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_m_series.html . Anything listed as "Performance" or above will handle SL. You should be able to find a laptop with a GT 130m or a GT 230m in your price range.

It will run SL on medium settings. You can search the forums for ATI to see what problems people are having and if that specific card is mentioned, but the hardware is between an Nvidia 9500 and 9600 in performance.
