This all started about a week or so ago, when I would try to click on 'Account History' everything would freeze and I would have to restart. Scan disk loaded when I would reboot and it truncated a couple files in the SL directory then everything was fine.
After that, I couldnt wear any textures that I uploaded.. then that problem just went away. Then I couldnt alter my appearance without it freezing, which also just went away.
For a few days after that everything was fine and I just thought it was my video card. I have a Radeon 9000 pro or something. Its already apparently not overly compatible cause I seem to live in an acid trip version of SL.
Finally, I had just bought a plot of land in Boardman and put together my house in a box.. I decided to change the look of the walls so I proceeded to do that. When I clicked on the color picker the first time to change the tint it worked, but I didnt like it and wanted to change it back. So I clicked on the color picker again.. and everything froze.
I restarted a couple of times, and everything would run fine till I clicked on the color picker. I decided to let scandisk run to see if it would do what it did before, but that didnt help.
After a couple of days of just dealing with it, I realized I couldnt change the tint of my clothes either! So I uninstalled and reinstalled.. but it didnt work. So I did it again, cause Im not a computer whiz and thought maybe I did it wrong.. but now when I try to load SL it crashes and the crash logger loads.

I have no idea what to do now, anyone have ideas?
And sorry for the novel, but I didnt want to leave anything out. :)

well.. even though I didnt get any responses.. I did end up fixing it by uninstalling and reinstalling a bunch of times.

However its now back to the way it was before.. if I click on the color picker it freezes.. but it also seems to be the same with uploading a texture. If I choose the option in the list it freezes. I can seem to get a temporary fix by uninstalling and reinstalling.. it only lasts a couple minutes though.

help. please?

*EDIT* I no longer can temporarily fix it by just uninstalling and reinstalling a couple times. :(

What's your operating system? (be sure to include specs like the amount of RAM)

Also, I'm curious about the size of your hard drive, how much space is available on it, and whether you've defragged lately.

Im running Windows XP Professional, have 768 megs of ram, 9.5 gigs free on a 30 gig harddrive.. and Ive defragged a couple of days ago.. about 4 mebbe.

And the problem has actually gotten worse.. I cant get into the game again.. and I had a corrupt file notice.. something about 'Kat Cartier is invalid'.. it has also had corrupt files having something to do with 'Prefetch' as well as newview itself. I hope thats everything.. :)

Kat,

I suspect the problem with uploading and changing colors is that your video card or graphics driver can't deal with drawing a 3D OpenGL window at the same time as a 2D file picker or color picker. I would try these steps:

* Uninstall Second Life
* Go into C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\ and see if there is a Second Life folder. If so, delete it. This will delete your Second Life cache. (The next version will do this automatically on uninstall.)
* Go to ATI's web page and find the Catalyst 3.1 drivers in their archive. Download 'em.
* Uninstall your current ATI graphics card drivers. Reboot.
* Install Catalyst 3.1
* Install Second Life.
* On SL startup, go to preferences, display, and select to run not fullscreen, but in a window.

Hopefully clearing out the cache will resolve any weirdness with existing content, and running in a Window with an older Catalyst driver version will help with the switching issue.

Cheers,

James

I LOVE YOU!!
You fixed ALL of my problems. I no longer live in an acid world, I can change colors freely.. and even upload textures.

I feel that I should say though, that I couldnt make it windowed.. When I would try that it caused my system to freeze. Without it however, all is well.

Thank you soo much. :)
