I find this is happening quite a bit at the moment.

Got a nice place on the corner of one openspace, which is part of a chain of 6 openspaces.

Again and again recently, when I attempt to fly across the openspaces (never the same one that causes it) I just end up flying uncontrolably and can't stop, eventually going off sim and even tonight causing SL to bomb out.

Very rarely happens on the mainland, and (thinking about it) dies not seem to happen when walking.

Something bad about flying across openspace sim connections?
It keeps happening and is a pain.

Generally this isn't a problem, but there are some cases where you can have issues:

1. The two openspaces are different classes. Class 4 openspaces don't perform the same as Class 5, and sim crossings between the two types can hurt.
2. The two openspaces are on servers located in different co-location facilities. You can determine if this is the case by checking Help > About Second Life while standing in each sim and doing a tracert on the IP addresses of the sims in question. (Actually #1 and #2 here might be the same issue, as different server classes tend to be in different facilities.)
3. The two openspaces are actually located on the same physical server. A lot of people seem to assume that adjacent sims are always on the same server, when in fact this is very rarely the case. It has been observed- and I have personally confirmed- that when two adjacent sims are located on the same physical server, border crossings are very painful and can result in a disconnect. Luckily you can fix this problem if you're sim owner or estate manager: Restart the sim. It will move to another server, and you should be okay.

Crossing sim boundaries requires LL's servers to hand off everything you are wearing, your avatar, all your inventory, all that is in you field of view from one sim (read computer) to another. A lot happens in a short period of time.........and often you lose the connection to the servers. Your viewer is not recieving anything (or, at least not enough) to show anything but what was last "seen". It just keeps going and going until it gets some information to tell it to change. You have no control because there is nothing to control. Open sims are generally lesser powered CPU's.......the reason they are cheaper to buy and have fewer prims allowed. Flying is probably worse than walking simply because the servers have more time to get the information to your viewer.

I happens on Mainland too. :)

Oh my god.

This has got to be THE most annoying thing for me in SL.

Tonight is even worse, but you would believe the amount of times I end up flying anf flying and flying when I cross over a sim boudary.

Sometimes it stops and I get put back to where I was before it started but a few times tonight I just had to quit

Thjis is the single most annoying thing for me right now.

===EDIT ===

And just 15 mins after posting this (and as I write this) Yes, again, I'm flying under the sea unstoppable (for the past 45 secs) due to crossing a openspace sim join again.
arghhhh!

Flying into oblivion

Is there a solution to this problem? If not is there a way to lessen the effects of the aircraft, watercraft eating sim boundaries? It seems to be getting worse recently. I would appreciate any assistance. We have 3 openspaces next to each other we fly and sail in. Again, any suggestions on how to eliminate or reduce the issues will be welcomed at this point.

Ther does seem to me a major issue with the whole concept people have (very popular now it seems) of creating openspace estates with the openspaces split into 1, 2, 3 or 4 islands with water all around each island, and then to offer/suggest free sailing around the whole estates waterways

An excellent idea and very popular and appealing concept. However this means that for a lot of the (sailing round the estate) time you can find yourself actually sailing right along with the sim border, perhaps crossing over it a number of times.

This of course is an very bad idea to do, as just cleanly crossing a sim edge is bad enough let along potentially sailing in line with it.

Of course, ideally you will keep either to the right or left of the waterway, but this does seem to be a flawed (if still visually attactive) concept.

Unless of course (and I guess this is impossible) there was some BUFFER ZONE between sims so that you could say be 20m over the edge of a sim boundary and still be in a limbo on that sim without suffering the crossover problem

Try wearing less scripted things, HUDs, AOs, etc. The cause of most of the crossing issues are all the scripts, which the servers have to exchange along with all their states.

You will find a night and day difference when crossing loaded up with scripts, compared with crossing "light".

This does not help every situation but it's interesting to note.

Thanks for the advice.

In the instance I gave (openspaces with clear waterways for sailing around the estate) You are generally in a scripted boat, which does not help.

Sometimes it's not bad, just a jugger and jump in movement for a second or two. Othertimes (esp is moving fast) can lead to all sorts of crazy things happening :)
