You can do what you want with Vista or XP. But, SL runs just fine on Vista. You say your hardware shouldn't be an issue......well, it's likely it is anyway.
Tell us what your specs are, how you connect to the internet (DSL, Cable, etc), are you networked, wireless or wired. How recent are your drivers (especially video)? Do you have a firewall? Ram, processor speed........anything that could help someone help you.

You should be able to run SL fine. Try an uninstall and before reinstalling search your computer for anything second life and manually delete it. Check nvidia for drivers that are 64 bit..............for some reason Vista 64 and SL have hiccups with drivers. I've heard that some drivers won't work but others won't. I don't use Vista 64 so I can't be much help there. The nVidia drivers I use for my Vista 32 are 1.69.xx..........you might look at that set of drivers. SL is strictly 32 bit so I would think the drivers would work. Don't know for sure though.

I have the same problem
06-05-2008 02:47
Yeah same for me and only started today. after 10-20 minutes i lock up and system hangs. AMD64 3500+ CPU 2 gig ram Windows XP GEFORCE gs7300 Video card. have updated the drivers to the latest, uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. but still the same issue. I'm starting to think SL has a problem with some of the Geforce cards now (or just today). I dunno but it's driving me insane and killing my system any help would be very grateful.

You've updated all your drivers, or just the obvious (video)?
You should try updating audio and network as well.
In addition, I would suggest downloading and running Speedfan (Look for it on Google). It will tell you what temperature certain components and zones are running at. If something is overheating, it certainly could cause your computer to lock up.

Well for me the issue is still there...i allready use pc probe, OCCT, and evga percision, and everything is well.. cpu under load is around 55-60 and the GC is around the same under load..all my drivers are up to date, so it just baffles me on what is causing this problem. again when i play for a few mins or up to a hour.. the client will hang, or freeze, and go to a black screen then to a white screen then half the time resume back to normal or crash.. and with the lil quote of sL not responding in the tab.. so any other ideas out there? maybe a amd issue too,, i dont know.
Edit....btw it has nothing to do with my FPS,, im getting around 35 fps on ultra settings which i would love to be better but this is in a crowded area too "very playable"

think i have sorted the problem

Have been in sl now for over an hour and no hanging.
I replace my card with a better 8600 GTS geforce card. the temp went down from the 70's to early 40's. running great. Not sure if it was the case for me of my graphics card over heating...but seems to have done the trick.
will update if i hang at all again
here are my temps at the moment
temp 1: 45C Temp2: 51c Temp3: 6C Local: 61C Remote: 62C Temp: 60C HD0: 52C HD1: 37C Core: 45C
