Anyone else having this problem?
I'm already logged in to this website. I select to go to the KnowledgeBase. A login screen is displayed with the password field blank. I enter password and execute, but the same screen comes up again with the password field blank.
Request to support has yielded no response as of yet.
Thanks,
Gunnar Olsen

Having the same problem.
You have no idea how many times I went through that login screen because I thought I was messing up my pass. lol
Hope it's cleared up soon.

Can't log in to Knowledge Base
06-14-2004 03:51
I have had this log in problem since day one. Funny thing is that when you ask customer service for help, they give you a "pre fab" message to look for your answers in Knowledge Base, but when you try to go there, you can't. Customer Service told me that it was a problem they were aware of and that it will not likely get fixed. Gee whiz. We are on our own I guess.

Same problem here as well, I've never gotten into the Knowledge base, but my GF can on her computer, and she's sitting right next to me LOL

Same problem here. But I found a way around it (at least in my case). I log in Knowledge Base using my old account's name and password (which I have since cancelled)! I signed in for a trial account at first. Then I cancelled it (didn't like the name) and created another account. I can log in to this site using my new name and password. But Knowledge Base requires me to use my old name and password! Hope this helps.

Same Problem

I've never been able to log into the Knowledge Base, not from day one. I thought maybe I needed a different account or something.

Any news of the fix?

Any news on how SL is doing in fixing this? I sure hope it gets fixed. It's tough and frustrating for us newbies not to have a manual or good list of FAQ's.

Just a thought

I guess it's a REALLY, REALLY difficult technical problem for SL not to be able to fix the Knowledge Base log-in issue for it's customers. It's been broken for a long time now.
How about this? Why does there have to be a password gate to get in, anyway? Is there secret stuff there that the non-members can't read? It could be a simple solution if the password gate was removed...

Just a suggestion: maybe your security settings are involved.
I don't have the Knowledge Base login problem, and I have my Internet security levels set to Medium. When I set them to High, I experience the repeating login feature reported, although it's not only the Knowledge Base that's inaccessible then.
If this works for you but you don't want to or aren't allowed to permanently change your Internet security settings, you should include secondlife.com and the Knowledge Base (which appears to be a different site), in your list of Trusted sites, then they will be accessed in Low security settings.

Great idea! But no cigar *boo hoo*

Dear Damien, I tried resetting my security. I was at "medium". I tried "medium-low" and then "low". Neither of those settings let me log on to Knowledge Base.
SL just wants to keep me a dumb blond I think. *smile*

Seabunny's point about questioning the need for secrecy in the KnowledgeBase seems quite relevant. I mean really, why shouldn't the public be able to access it? Jiminy, Lindens! It might even get you some more customers...
Also, my experience is the same as hers regarding the security settings --- dropped all shields and still no go.
I've forwarded an additional request to "Support," and referenced this thread. Still waiting...
I now begin to wonder if there truly is a "Knowledge Base." Has anyone actually been there? What if we were finally able to scale the barricades and found nothing but a blank page!

Shock Madison, Thanks! Great tip. It worked for me too. Was in the same situation. Had a trial period account that I didn't like the name of and cancelled. Saw your post tonight and gave it a try (logging in with old name), and it worked. I recommend everyone else tries this with their original account (assuming the one you have now isn't your only one). Omen

Another great idea, but no cigar.

I've only had one account on SL and only one SL name. It has never been changed. I had my trial period and couldn't log in to Knowledge Base during that time. After one week, I became a member, hoping that THEN I would be allowed to log in. Still no luck. I'm am curious, too. Anyone ever been there? Is it worth pestering SL to fix it? I happen to like manuals and reading suggestions to try and help myself with my problems.
hmmmm Maybe I should create a phony account to get a name that CAN log in, and then cancel it? Sheesh!! Seems like that might create other problems for SL... Lindens, should I try this work around to see if I can get access to Knowledge Base? I'm not sure you would want me to create multiple accounts...?

I did finally get into knowledge base, but what I didn't mention is that it wasn't worth all this effort. Sure, three weeks ago it would have been useful, but now, the information there is pretty much stuff you'd need when you're a new user.
In it there are basically a bunch of newbie questions with the appropriate answers. Nothing special.
For example:
"How do I change my avatar's appearance?"
Stuff like that. They are just preselected questions that most people have when they are new here, with quick answers, to avoid having to spam forums with these kind of questions.
So if you're really trying hard to get in there, I wouldn't bother. Not worth all the trouble really. It's unfortunate for the new players though, who can't get simple answers to questions that would be otherwise embarassing to ask when first logging in-world, or making a first post here.

Hand holding
06-29-2004 16:31
I still consider myself pretty new and need my hand held. I get stuck with some simple things and get really, really frustrated. If I could read the simple answer, and solve my own simple problem, well, it would make my day *smile*.
Linden, are you listening?
Send a sign.

I just logged in to the KB and found out it has a 'personal' section called Questions. In my case, this contained a bug report I had filed from in-world.
I suppose logging in to the KB is required because of this personal section.
Which also means - not being able to see the KB is a less than innocent bug - using an alt account will not give you access to your 'own' KB

Not being able to log on eg. into the knowledge base had obviously to do with not accepting cookies - accepting some and not all or having an automatic cookie handling enabled or some cookies once rejected can all result in the same problem.
Only solution is to remove all entities of secondlife.com in the cookie database (either positive or negative) and then, when logging on,m accepting ALL cookies and activeX requests.
Whether this makes sense in terms of privacy and security is another question, though and must be decided by each one individually.
