Using the latest windlight build, in a couple crowded sims, I get these occasion "hiccups" that last aynwhere from 5-30 seconds, where SL just freezes up, then resumes... the period between these lockups, it runs smooth as butter...

Eventually this all leads up to a cataclysmic cacophony of lockups and hiccups for 2-3 minutes until it finally disconnects from the server, and the minimap turns red

Check out this JIRA issue; sounds like a recurring thing with the client in general. Would be a good idea to vote for it and add a comment and edit the Affected Versions to reflect the WL version...

Sounds like a lot of people are describing my exact problem, including the big laggy crash at the end... many people already mentioned Windlight too... I have to say I'm.. rather relieved that this is a known issue, and not my brand new PC... haha

I was thrilled last night to have logged on right after the 'Rolling Restart'... to find that I could PAN the camera all around and it was quick, fast and even with a lot of Players on the same SIM... no longer the LAGGY Festival it has been for the past six months!

Now I am told today that they took down and 'Rolled Back' the Server upgrades due to some problem. Does this mean that when I log on later I am going to experience the return of the Laggy Video Crash-fest that has been hounding SL all these many months??

Well the thing is I play in a sim with like 50+ people on it at busy times... but when it's not doing the little hardware lag hiccups, it runs smooth even with like 40 people drawn on screen
