I'm completly new in this game and i'd like to know if its normal to have an average of 3-4 FPS most of the time.

Video : GFTi4400
Mem : 512 DDR
CPU : XP1700

Is that normal ?
What can i do to increase my perfomance?
What is your average FPS ingame?

it very well could just be your sim... But also Check to make sure that you have nothing or very little running in the background of Windows, before you start SL.

if not familiar on how to check whats all running on startup ...
go to the run line and type
MSCONFIG
then go to startup tab
from there you can see everything that loads in startup alot is behind the sceens programs that slow ya down alot, also make sure virus scan is NOT running thas a real killer ....

last but not least go to zdnet.com and download adaware(its free)
run it and get rid of all spyware on your system , you may have to run it 2 times to get it all.... that spyware crap is a HUGE monster and really effects performance...

and check performance in other locations , the start areas of the game are the most lagged (if ya havent already done so)

Thx for your help guys.

I'm a gamers and i play other games like UT2K3 and SOF2 on my computer. All thoses game run very smothly. Im not sure the problem is about background application.

Plz give me some example of the average performance you have on your computer. FPS?

I've done some test, in the welcome area i've 10 fps. In other more complex place i've only 2-4 fps. Maybe its normal, i'm not sure. But if a big computer can only have those performance, imagine what it would be on a small computer when the game will be released.

I have a "big" machine as well, and I have similar sort of problems with slow performace, although I usually get between 13-17 fps in the "good" areas, and 4-6 fps in the crowded ones.

When it gets really laggy, usually in Lindenburg (the new town), I log out and back in - this usually clears up the lag for a while.

I'll have to try that thing with the spyware to see if that helps...

well, 3-4 fps on a gf4.. somethings wrong .. .. im running a gf2 , set max settings + vis 100 + avatars set to 20.. i get say 18 fps

some tips : make sure you setup ur gf4.. turn off antialiasing completely as its murder, turn off anistropic filtering, vsync, pump the "use X texture memory" to the max.

get the latest drivers, official in this case (41.09) as 42.xx are glitchy with 2ndLife. www.nvidia.com

get your latest mobos agp drivers and such , for via , the 4 in 1 drivers, for sis the agp 1.13 or whatever drivers.

make sure ur settings arent crezzy like 5000000 vis :P

There is an entry in the "Knowledge Base" under SL's "Service & Support" menu above that agrees with what Adrian said above. It's the one titled:

Second Life is frozen or responds at <1FPS

Thx for your suggestion Adrian.

Everything was correct except vis=256, i'll try tonight with vis=128.

My Internet connection is 4000kbps DOWN / 800kbps UP. Do you think i could increase my bandwith to 500kbps to improve my performance?
