hey guys, this has only recently started happening, but as im playing, My screen would just turn off, and then come back on looking like it looks in the picture i've attached, then it goes back to normal, but alot sharper quality picture than normal, and smaller, and then flicks back to a black screen, and i have to reset my computer, this ONLY happens in SL and its really annoying me

Sounds like your card is crashing, your monitor is shutting off because it knows this, then your card reboots, shoves your computer into a different resolution, then back to the one you have it set to.
Don't you just love ATI? Love to stab them in the eyeball, I mean.
Probably a cooling problem. Try taking your case off (and if it's shoved into a tiny space, taking it out so it can breathe) and seeing if it still does it. If it doesn't, that's your problem. Otherwise, congrats on finding a new way ATI sucks at SL.

Lets not blame ATI for issues not related necessairly to ATI problems. That looks like either the card is dying, which happens to all cards, or that the card is not recieving enough power. Granted, ATI's performance in SL is sub-par, but I would not trade my 9800 pro for anything NVIDIA. I have owned both brands of cards, and I have found that ATI offers superior visual quality, and, in most cases, better performance. I get so sick of seeing people bash ATI. Both manufactuors make great cards, and both make some pretty terrible ones. Dead hardware is just that, Dead hardware. I've had Nvidia cards die within weeks of being unboxed. It happens.

I have a 9800 Pro as well and I honestly think SL runs fine, I get an average fo 30fps after some tweaking. I'm getting sick of ppl bashing ATI, I haven't had a single problem with it and I play all sorts of games and use all sorts of 3d modeling/rendering and art programs. Not one complaint... none..... I used to have a GeForce 4 Ti 4600. It was a good card. But looking at benchmarks/dollar. I chose an ATI. DarkMajik, you simply paraphrased my suggestion that either his card is overheating or not getting enough juice. One thing I guess I forgot to ask is... are you overclocking your card? Some API's don't take well to odd mem frequencies. Peace.
