SL with Norton?

I have two virus programs on my PC, Norton and Avast. Does the game run better with them both disabled? I only keep Norton running, Avast only runs when I reboot.

And does the firewall (Norton also) make the game slower? I have all the ports open that need to be but I did disable it a couple times and things seemed to run faster. Working on getting Linux up as a firewall and all this Norton stuff can go away :P

Sorry for the noob questions in advance :)

Why do you have two seperate virus scanners? What's the point of that?

I don't know about Norton Anti-virus specifically, but anti-virus software can affect your system performance, particularly if it's running in some kind of over-zealous "check every bit of data over and over" mode. That's not to say it's necessarily the sole cause, though. Any active background processes will eat into the amount of CPU and memory that SL has to play with.

Unless you're really not willing to change it, the antivirus software should be disabled if you really want to squeeze the extra bit performance out of your system. How big a performance gap are we talking about between running the antivirus software and not? (Alt-1 in SL brings up your framerate. How many FPS difference is there?)

As for your firewall, it's unlikely that it's doing anything terribly big, but again, the possibility does exist if it's doing some really paranoid stuff. Using Linux and a seperate machine is probably best.

I have two right now because I am getting rid of Norton as soon as the Linux box is set up.

TY for the tip on frame rate. I'll check out the difference when I play tonight. I just have them checking in a middle of the road type of thing. I'm not paranoid, honest :P
