Very Bizarre Problem.. No connection, yet there is one? :(

Hi all.. I posted a while back with a mysterious connection issue. After many numerous attempts at fixing it, and following some of the advice on here, with absolutely no luck at all, I managed to work out a few things. No solution, but a better description of my odd problem, anyways.
I wasn't sure about bumping old topics, so I thought it would be better to make a new one, btw.

Anyway, my problem is this: whenever I go to a sim, there is no issue at all. I have full connectivity, almost zero lag, et cetera. However, after anywhere between 1 and 10 minutes after loading the sim initially, the connection drops to zero. I can't load the search function, update information, or anything.
Now that might not be so bizarre, just a dud connection.. except it's not gone. I can teleport. And, once I teleport, the connection comes back full strength, for another period of 1-10 minutes, before it disappears again!
Now, for the sake of the problem I'll admit -- I used to use SecondLife about a year or two ago, on this very computer, same network configuration and all - no problems. Now there is a major problem! I use an Asus laptop with 2gb of RAM and over 100gb of free space still. I have a 100Mbps wired connection behind a router - all the non-laptop computers in my house haven't got an issue at all - and deactivated all firewalls (the router's and my own), in case they were the source of the problem. My CPU is an Intel Pentium III.
Still, the connection dies every time.
It's truly bizarre, and I don't know what to do? Is it something obscure I've overlooked? Something obvious? Is it my SL version (1.23.5)?

Another member of my family has an identical laptop to mine (it was a popular laptop with us hehe :p), and also has this problem. As I said though, none of the desktop computers we have have this connection problem.

So, er.. help? This is extremely frustrating :( 'Twould be appreciated!

Same machine, huh? One thing that can stuff up SL the way you describe is if the amount of graphics memory is misdetected. SL prefs, graphics tab, check the Custon box and then go into Hardware Options. See if the texture memory number matches what your card really has. Even if it looks like it is in the ballpark, try cutting the number in half just to see if things get better or worse. If it turns out that your graphics card is starved for memory, it can also help to reduce your draw distance.

Just tried that, three times, each time with a lower texture memory setting, all below the nmber that is supposedly ideal for my card.

No change :(
Thanks for the suggestion, though..!

What is the model number of the Asus?

Can you try connecting at a different location?

Does anyone have any ideas? I can't stay connected, period. SecondLife is unuseable with this problem... and still no luck.
