Ya I know not going to happen. But wouldn't it be great if the sl avatars excepted displacement maps, and normal maps. Displacement map is a 2d texture that distorts rendering. It can be used to make a ruff edge smooth, and normal map add detail and proper shading that reacts to lighting.

Normal mapping wont happen unless they rebuild the SL avatar. The way normal mapping works is that first a HQ model(1 million+) is made then the low qaulity one(smaller then that eheh usualy about 5000). The only examples of the technology used to translate them is polybump which was used in farcry and heavily in doom 3(well accually it doesn't specificly use the polybump plugin but it's similar), I'm all for normal mapping but I don't think it will hit SL for awhile. As for displacement mapping, well it's already partly here I understand, look at the land in SL it's all displacement based and as far as I know this has no use on the AV itself unless you want it to make additional polys on the av...
