What the heck is linden labs doing?
i built a new PC in July of last year. SL ran beautifully on it. No lag at max settings. I went out of town over the holidays and got back this week. I have lag clear down to medium settings...
I have a Pentium Dual Core CPU a 512MB 9500GT Graphics card and 2 gigs of ram
I can slap more Ram in there up to 8 gigs. So i can fix the lag pretty easily..
But thats not the case with most people......Linden labs is the only company i've seen that willingly shuts out customers on a monthly basis from there updates......
Quality of gameplay goes a long way........If people won't have a fun experience in sl. They won't start businesses or want to buy things..........
Great job linden labs!!

From: JP Loening What the heck is linden labs doing? Your question is doesn't apply to the situation, as LL only runs the grid, provides object storage and SL's central bank equivalent. The question you meant to ask was, "What the heck am I doing?" The SL viewer is open source. If you're not participating in the devlopment project, you have yourself to blame for the viewer's problems. It's your responsibility as much as anybody else's. So, what the heck /are/ you doing? Why are you complaining when you could be working on fixing something or gaining the skills required to do so?

Huh?
I have no control over Sim Storage or updating Grids.......I did some more research tonight and found out the sim servers are lagging. Not me. I pulled all my graphics down to minimum and got the same amount of lag as High Graphics..........
So unless LL hires me to slap larger servers in their closet. No, I have no control over this issue....

Did Linden Lab (BTW, that's singular, not plural) slip a mandatory update in without me noticing? I can't remember how long ago the last required update was put out........but it has been months (like maybe 4 or 5). If you are using a release candidate there very possilbly was one or more updates......but if you are using the regular SL viewer, there has been no updates. RC's tend to have updates often........after all they are the beta viewers that are being refined for a later, official, release as the regular viewer. If you are using an RC then I believe LL would appreciate a "bug report" with the specifics of any problem you may be having.........a rant like this thread will very likely be sent to the delete file in a hurry. Also what have you done to try to remedy the problem? Have you read through the threads from the last few weeks? SL has been experiencing more than usual problems and your issues may simply be related to that.

Funny, my Sim FPS is 45, ping is 82 msec and time dialation is 0.99. Pretty typical and pretty good actually. Zero packet loss too.

Sim FPS is unrelated to graphics.
It's still "frames per second" but the "frame" part has a diferent meaning entirely.
