is it possible to have your business featured on the SL login screen?

Hi guys,

I run a job agency in second life called jobstar which gets some great feedback and alot of visitors, I am wondering if there is anyway of being featured on the second life login screen as I notice it changes alot?

Also is there anyway of linden backing your business or getting promotions from them paid or unpaid? if so which linden would you contact for this,

Login screen is not possible; even if you pay for it.

That are pictures of "general" places; not commercial ones by "a" linden.
I don't know by who.

If you want to promote your business you can do it in forums by postings or by taking banners on them, make a blog, rent adboards inworld, take a banner on xstreet, put your land in search, pay for classifieds, ...

To be on the first page of the classifieds (general tab) then you need to have a budget of min. 300,000L$ per week. Goes sometimes up to 600K per week.
The one who pays the most is on the top.
So if you pay today 400K, tomorrow 10 others pay more then you even aren't listed anymore on the first page.

Hi thanks for your reply, I think you are somewhat wrong in the classified information you gave me... I think if you are selling clothes or something which has a corwded market then you would need to pay this amount however for example if your selling something a bit less crowded such as lets see, web design service...

so if I wanted to be number one on the search for keywords 'Web Design' I would need to pay 501L as the person currently top is paying 500L.

This would apply for alot of things which arent in a corwded market,... in saying this if i wanted to be top for keyword 'jeans' or 'tshirt' then yes your probbably right however I dont sell these items. So thanks for your reply however I dont think you can generalise classifieds like this as the price bassicly goes on what keywords you are looking for, thanks

Since you asked for ANY way, I can think of one, but it would be a whole lot more trouble than it's probably worth. Make your own branded viewer. That would enable you to control what's on the login screen. It would also mean you could control everything else as well. Heck, you could put your brand name on every single button if you wanted to. But of course, you'd have to get people download the thing first, which in and of itself would require advertising, so that would put you right back where you started.


For what it's worth, I like your creative thinking. I think ads on the login screen could be a great idea. As it is now, the screenshots, while sometimes pretty, don't really serve any practical purpose. It would probably be good if they did. But at this point in time, the login screen is just not an ad space, and I'm sure many of the con-commercialism purists out there would argue that it never should be. This subject would make for an interesting debate, if nothing else.

I'd say submit the idea to LL. See what they have to say.

There's a number of other viewers such as Emerald that might sell their login screen image for the right price.
