I'm having trouble hearing sounds that I am facing or my camera is facing....If my back (camera not facing) is turned to something i hear it just fine...seems like a problem with 3d sound? any ideas from anyone how to fix it or to work around it?

Sound in SL is perceived as if your ears were on the camera, not your avatar's head. If your camera is very far away from the sound source you won't hear it, even if your avatar is very near the source.
Try positioning your camera closer to your avatar, or try mouselook mode (where the camera is inside your avatar's head!).
If you are still having problems even after repositioning your camera, please let us know.
