Hi!! Hope I picked the right forum for this question... I can't seem to find the forums options... you know, the page that will allow me to set up my sig file, little avatar picture on the left, etc etc etc. I thought maybe it was due to not enough posts, but I just got 'Member' status (30 posts) and I still can't find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I really wanna get this set up. Thanks!!!! -Ghoti -Club Laura Dancer -Artist/Graphic Designer

Yeah it is not exactly obvious! Look at the bottom of this page - see the Forum Jump window? Click on the down-arrow at the right-hand-side of it and scroll up to the top - there you will find a link to the User Control Panel. Highlight and click Go. Must be SL's best-kept secret.

Another reason PHPBB is better than vBulletin.

Thanks Helen!! From: someone Must be SL's best-kept secret. Seriously! You'd think they were trying to hide it or something. That's silly. Now I have a sig, yay! BUT when I try to add an avatar, if I click the 'more info...' link I get a page that says: From: someone Avatars are small graphical images that you may choose in your profile. They are displayed below your username on all posts that you make. You can select the image that best describes yourself from your profile options.
Here's the list of currently available avatars:
If you have more than 0 posts, you may also specify your own custom avatar. With nothing to click on... If I choose the 'Change Avatar' button, it takes me to a login screen which just dumps me back to the top level of the forums. Am I doing something wrong? I'm totally not seeing anything like 'add this picture as my avatar' like I've seen in other boards. I agree with Doodles!!

There should be another option for "Browse (your hard drive)" and a space to put a url in/ Change Avatar button.
It works for me in Safari, but not in Firefox, so I suggest trying another browser.

Using Safari on a Macintosh. Didn't see it on my XP box at home either. Hmmmm...

From: someone Originally posted by Donnie Donovan Another reason PHPBB is better than vBulletin. It's not the fault of vBulletin, but the way it has been configured. I use vBulletin forums in another game where they have been configured so that the Control Panel can be accessed from a button at the top of each page. Much easier.

This is simply the fault of LL not putting a link to the options like we've been asking them to for the past year or so.

Weird, I am still not able to add an avatar to the forums. No button, no link, no nothing to click on. -Ghoti

Adding an Avatar
09-08-2004 11:22
Hi, I just got it to work for me. It's a tiny, tiny, pic, but I kept getting an error message that the file was too big and the picture had to be 50 x 50 pixels. I kept shrinking the original until it stuck. Here is what worked for me: User Control Panel Edit Options Change Avatar You can upload an Avatar from Your computer Browse find your picture and upload it. It has to be tiny <20000KB and 50 x 50 pixels

Yeah, that doesn't work for me... User Control Panel Edit Options Change Avatar
Clicking the Change Avatar button takes me to a quick screen that says something like 'Thanks for changing your profile' which quickly switches to a Resident login page. I log in, then it takes me back to the forums main index.
I get this same result on Mac (Safari, Foxfire and IE) and on Windows XP (IE).
Would be really nice if a Forums Linden could look at this and see if I'm really just losing it, or if something is wrong with my forums account.

Hmmm... conjecture... could it have something to do with choosing the option about 'remain logged in (uses cookies)' or something? I went and changed a bunch of settings in the options and NOW it appears to have uploaded my AV... guess we'll see with this post....

how do I...
09-08-2004 16:28
So, tell me how I can make my teeny tiny Avatar (I worked so hard at posting) to look a liitle bigger, like all the rest of you guys. I only got it to post by trial and error (shrink and resize) until it stuck. No science in it. How do I make a GIGANTIC picture taken in SL to become a FORUM acceptable Avatar? I need step by step hand-holding.

Seabunny, you'll need to crop close to your face before you resize.
The process is so much easier in Photoshop. In Photoshop 7 (and higher) you can guarentee a 50x50 crop by first selecting your crop tool then in the bar across the top on the left it should have a place to type the width and the height. make those both 50, and the crop tool will only size as a square, and whatever you selct in the crop tool will be reduced to 50x50 pixels.
If you do not have photoshop, first crop (with cut and paste if your program does not have a crop tool) around your face, close, so that wat you want in the avie icon is what you see in the window, THEN do the resizing down to 50x50.

I was having this same problem... From: someone If I choose the 'Change Avatar' button, it takes me to a login screen which just dumps me back to the top level of the forums. ...until I finally discovered that changing "Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)" to YES solved it. Wish I woulda noticed this thread earlier, it might have helped preserve my hairline.
