Ok SL usually runs pretty smoothly for me on a normal basis, then i login today, get the new client that i HAVE to use to play SL, and i can't hardly move, everything is lagging, the whole stop-go animations, things taking forever to load, buttons taking forever to click and respond.
i don't know what has changed, but any help would be appreciated.

(and yes i checked my graphic settings already and they are where they normally are, i even tried turning down a couple things a little and still didn't change how bad im lagging and yes i tried dif SIM's and stuff to see if it was just where i was, and it dind't make a difference)

I use Snowglobe and everything was fine until the server updates this week. Now about half the regions I goto are incredibly laggy, giving me about a 5-10 second delay for my movements to occur.

Hi Dangereuse, welcome to the forums.

You can use an older client version if you like (though that may not be true, soon). Here are the old versions:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions

In order not to get the "mandatory upgrade" message when you run one of these, add "-version old" to your run string (e.g., on a PC, add it to the 'target' line in your desktop shortcut).

Meanwhile, are you running 1.23.x or Snowglobe?

And, please post your machine specs (in SL, choose Help/About and cut/paste the info about your computer).

Thanks! Your computer looks like it should run SL just fine with moderate frame rates. I can't check the graphic driver versions - Nvidia's driver site seems to be down - but I can say that 1.23.4 has not been requiring driver updates any more than any other client.

1.23.4 is unquestionably a dog, but most folks can run with it. I bet the problem lies in something else that happened between the last time you logged in and this client upgrade. You can test that by reverting to 1.22 (or the last client you had that worked).

If the older client also doesn't work, I'd look at your networking. Sometimes cable/DSL modems get borked ... try turning yours off for 15 minutes. Reboot the computer at the same time.

If that's not it, look for other things that might have changed. Did your virus checker update and begin trying to scan your Second Life cache? Has your firewall changed (closing one of the many ports SL requires)?

The only thing that changed was the new SL client.
My computers fine, my drivers are fine. So i don't know, and of course no help from LL cause i don't have a paid account. So i dunno what to do. I don't even remember what version i had before the forced download >.<

I would say your machine is pretty solid for running SL relatively trouble free........probably would struggle with your settings maxed but mid to high settings should give you acceptable performance.

You are using the same driver version I'm using and I have no real problems with the new viewer. So I'd say that is not a likely source of you issues. The one thing I did have to do when I upgraded to the new viewer is I had to pull my draw distance back to 256 from 512.....I had jerky movement at the high setting. However, you said you lowered everything.....double check your draw distance to see if that helps. Another thing to try is to reset your modem and/or router.

And one other thing. When you upgraded to the new viewer did you upgrade directly from the download or did you save to your hard drive and install from there? I have found that client upgrades tend to work better if you download to your drive (not choose run, but choose save), uninstall SL completely (including doing a search of your hard drive and manually deleting anything related to Second Life. Yes even any short cuts you have), then installing. If you didn't do that and resetting your modem/router does not work then maybe try downloading the upgrade again and installing as I do.

And, do one more thing. before you launch SL do the alt, control, delete trick to bring up your task manager. Check to see if there is an instance of SL running in the processes tab. It probably won't be, but leave the task manager running and put it on your task bar. Launch SL and log in..........check your processes again. If you see two SL's running that could be your problem. I've had that issue before........and I don't really know what causes it but a reinstallation of the client fixed it for me.

Hope one of thses suggestions help you.

Well i have tried all the above, even going back to 1.22 and still doesn't work. thanks for trying guys, must be something wtih my comp or soemthing, though i dunno what. i can still run everything else i do perfectly fine, all my games and VR Worlds work same as always. Only SL having issues. Whatever forced upgrade happened and did, it screwed up SL for me what seems to be permenantly unless i can come up with money i dn't have for an over kill Computer. Ah well.. Thanks anyways.
