HELP! Newview Error

HELP I cannot get into the game I am getting the Newview has casued an error in Newview.exe and will now close please try restartign you computer.

First let me tell you I am running ME not XP I have 2 different PC's it has worked fine one both up to now. I have Gfeorce 4mx420 and the driver is 4.14 version on the Pc with the error.

We tried; uninstalling the game and re installing, removing all the new drivers nothing. The only thing not tried is removing the old drivrs and replacing it with an old version.

I cannot even load login window if any one has had this problem and found the cure please let me know!

I don't have the fix, but I can tell you it's probably not something you did. I'm in the same boat. One of my kids (well over 18, thank you) was logging on with a machine that fit the recommended parameters in all but one respect. It was running ME.

We made NO cahnges, since this machine was the one I just moved to the new machine from. It has to remain untouched while I copy my email and such to the new machine. So, there have been no installations or adjustments.

It was running fine (a bit slow, yes) until one day it simply wouldn't boot. Period. Tried to reinstall, then COMPLETE uninstall (even removing the SL folder, another reinstall. Fretted over graphic settings, virtual ram, virus software, firewall software, etc, etc,... No luck. Now we take turns signing on on the new machine. :-/

At this point, while I have no evidence that this is true, I am assuming that there has been some sort of registry funny business. Of course it's just as possible that it's naughty pixies, for all I know.

Since there is NO reason for Linden to expend resources looking into this operating system, the best I can hope for is that some one out there without the good luck to have just gotten a newer computer in the nick of time will be desparate enough to wack at this until it works.

that happens to me too, everytime I reinstall it just messes up. Something about a \WINDOWS\Prefetch or something too. its killing me.. it works then it doesnt.. now it partially works but I cant upload new textures or edit the color of any textures whatsoever.

I was having all sorts of trouble when i was running win98 (not sure if they could be related to your problems). Basically to get rid of the newview error...i had to delete my cache file in the second life folder. Either that, or install SL again.

I also got frequent rebooting/freezing of my computer (all since gone with using XP..thank god!)

Deleting chache, file now that we haven't tried. I did the un install and reinstall that didn't help. I am also having alot of freezing up. I was considering buying XP upgrade. Humm

Yeah i know its not win98, just thought it might apply to your situation as well hehe. I just recently upgraded to winxp(in the last day or so), and all my problems have vanished. I don't reboot/freeze at all anymore.

I went a bought xp. Your right, Newview went away but now the new patch doesn't support my graphics card any more. I need to get the old drivers. PLus I am still locking up
