I saw the notice that the upgrade to the newest version will be put into place this week so I went ahead and downloaded it. Went to install it and keep getting an error message "Error opening file for writing C:\ProgramFiles\SecondLife\app_settings\mozilla\components\xulutil.dll" Gives options to Abort, Retry. Ignore. Hit Abort (cancels download), Hit Retry (nothing happens), Hit Ignore and more errors pop up. Try to run and it just goes right to a crash report. I was playing fine earlier this evening on the current version (not the newest one) now cant get on at all since it has replaced the old files with the new ones. I'm running on Vista and obviously not behind a firewall if I were playing earlier. Any suggestions on what might be going on and any idea on how to fix it would be great!

You'll find a number of threads on this problem by doing a forum search for

error opening file writing

I didn't see a perfect quick solution, unfortunately, so I can't just past a guaranteed solution here.

One really easy thing to try from the threads I looked at is to reboot your computer after uninstalling and before reinstalling.

One thing that stands out in my mind whenever there's an "Error opening file for writing" issue is that either the user or the process does not have permission to write to the given file or folder.

Being a Linux nut, the following workaround makes my skin crawl (but then again, Vista makes my skin crawl anyhow); however, this may be the only way around this particular issue: Try running the Installer program as Administrator (Right-click on the downloaded installer file, and select "Run as Administrator";).
