I'm based in the UK and I'm finding that very often a whole of Linden's datacenters is unusable. For example at present, whenever I set foot on a sim hosted in Phoenix SL it is completely unusable and takes 30 minutes to rez anything, assuming I don't drop from SL first.

Now I do know how to diagnose a fault, I trace the route to the affected server(s) and it's always a problem with packet loss across one or more hops of level 3's network(LL's hosting provider). I have tried various times to raise these issues with Linden and have provided evidence that it's a problem with level 3, but I just get told it's was a momentary problem that's now fixed. Which must explain why every evening my sim becomes unusable at the moment.

Why when someone has already done proper diagnostics and provided evidence of severe problems with the network do we get told it's fixed when it obviously isn't? When does a "momentary" problem become a permanant one? Is 2 hours of unsuable sim a day a permanent one, or is 2 hours "momentary"?

I've had sims moved between datacenters before to avoid the problems, but it seems I have to fight to get it moved. Perhaps becuase if people realised how easy it is we would all be asking for it to be done. However, the days it takes to get this done hurts my business in SL as I'm unable to work effectively.

For anyone who's finding a fair percentage of the sims in SL to be unusable, do help > about and look at the sims IP address, then you have the basics of what you need to start diagnosing the problem. Maybe if more of us start pointing out faults with level 3's network things will start to change.

I'm quite sure this has to do with a problem a tenant reported on one of my sims. She's in the UK and had terrible problems on this single sim, but no one else on the island has/had any issues. We have moved her to another island where she's now running just fine.

Wildfire: have your tenant download neotrace from: http://www.networkingfiles.com/neotrace/ it's a free 30 day trial. When he (or she) run that it will show the location of your sim, and the routing from the tenant's location. This is a very useful program to find where sims are located.

My best of luck,
Linn
