Removing meters or HUDs

I click to take these off and they do not come off. This is an intermittent thing. Sometimes they come right off.
I opened up the lag meter under the Help menu and in the beginning the buttons were all red, but eventually they went to green, all of them. Why can't I remove these? Now the Network button has changed back to red and then back to green while I was typing.
Inventory is my most frustrating section of SL. Grrrrrr
Is there anything I can do? I waited until everything loaded on the sim page and that did not work either.

I finally logged out and when I got back online, they were gone.
I'd really like to know what I can do without logging out each time.

I would simply suggest making sure you are in a quiet sim before you try.
