How do I disable it? Now I don't expect support but I'm trying to run SL under Linux using WINE. I have little to no problems running other 3D Games so I was going to try this one.

But it just won't install 'cause it says SL is running.

Make sure you have no folders open that are called Second Life. In fact, close everything. Try that...although, it probably won't work :(

I got around it by Comping the Second Life program folder and Application Data folder to my Linux install.

But now it complains of not getting 32bit screen depth.

Which I don't understand 32 == 24 w/ Alpha, Alpha is used for Blitting and doesn't display on-screen. X11 Doesn't support that Screen Mode but it does support that Window Depth.

I'm looking to see if I can disable Full-Screen for settings.ini or if I can get Wine to allocate a 32 bit window.

If I find the solution I'll be sure to post it ^_^

I'm pretty sure you can disable fullscreen in one of the ini files. Good luck to ya, I'd love to know how it turns out!

Has anyone out there managed to get SL running under Linux using Wine?

I got as far as a previous poster, I copied the files manually and the game opens up a window complaining that it can not open a 32 bit display.

I copied it from a machine that was running in full screen mode, and when SL tries to start on Linux the screen goes black like the monitor is switching modes, then comes back with the error (and a messed up color pallete).

I have a Geforce3 Ti 200 whcih runs the game fine when under Windows.

Well, the Linux version of SL should be ready by the spring, and the Mac version should be ready before the new year. That's all I know. :(

Good Luck! :)

I got SL to install but not run on WineX by modifying one of the WineX functions (FindWindow, I think) to always return false and recompiling. It might be possible to get it to run by doing something similar to have WineX misreport a 24bit screen as 32bit.
