I explained SL to the gamer kid at Best Buy, and he is pushing the ASUS laptop over a good Compaq. Compaq has always been fine.

Is he right? He seemed to be very excited about it.

Thanks. :)

Which Asus? The G51 (15";) or G71 (17";) have a very strong graphics card...you won't find anything with a better GPU unless you get an Alienware or Clevo/Sager model. The G71 has a decent CPU and 6 GB memory since it uses three-channel memory instead of the typical 2-channel. The G51 has a slower CPU, but still runs well. I have run SL on a G51, but it is the Newegg version with a 2.8 GHz CPU. It runs with everything pushed up, great draw distance, and anti-aliasing turned on.

Veritable - here is what I wrote down, and I may have missed a few words - or got a few words wrong - I am technically challenged.

4 gig ram
dedicated memory or graphics card (something like that)
Nvidea G-force something
320 gig something
something about Vista 7 (I hate Vista)
something about 64 bits
dual processor
15.6" screen (I'll miss the 17" screen, but what's a few inches anyway)

I can't order one - I needed it yesterday - and that's the only one they have. I've been using a very good Compaq - no complaints - I had draw distance and stuff turned down on it - but it got overworked I think, running two SL's at once for a long time.

That's the G51. It's the best solution for under $1000. The Compaqs that Best Buy carries do not have nearly as good a graphics card as the Asus. It will be able to handle SL at very high settings.

Close enough for government work.

Thank you very much, Veritable. Turning the settings up will be very exciting!
