2 gigs of RAM seems a lot (and it is, really) but with Vista and SL it's barely enough. Vista takes almost 1 gig all by itself (a little better if all the Aero stuff is turned off, but not much less). SL will take close to 800 megs with a good video card with 256 on card VRAM. In short, though you have 2 gigs, you are barely there on what is needed.

What's your video card? How much dedicated RAM does it have? Being able to stay on SL for an hour could mean your system RAM is too slow or maybe damaged. If you don't have enough VRAM your card will try to steal what it needs to render the graphics.........your system will give as much as it can but can only do so much before it has problems. Also, the problem may not have a thing to do with RAM or graphics card. You could be looking at a heating issue. So many things could be the cause.

Without more to go on, I'm afraid all you are going to get is guesses.........just as what I just stated. They are nothing but guesses.

You can get some system info right in the SL viewer, in the Help About Second Life dialog. You can copy the text in that dialog to paste here.

This website, http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest , can also give you some system info to report here.

I'll wager you could go to Vista Help and find some system information fairly easily, possibly by searching for "system information", or something similar.

The video card or processor needs to be identified more specifically than nVidia.

Windsweptgold , your problem sounds nothing like the OP's problem, you might do better to start your own thread in such a case. It sounds like you are in a sim that is bogged down. Try going somewhere completely different, somewhere without too many people or scripted or physics enbabled objects, and see what happens.

As for the OPs comment, "SL wil make me crazy", that is quite true.

Regarding the crashing problem, check the air vents for dust, and opening the box and checking that the fans are dust free and spinning properly might be in order. Another easy thing to try is to try a different viewer. If using the regular viewer, try the Release Candidate, and vice versa. Might also pay attention to what in-world conditions are when the crashes occur.

Was that a hard crash, crashing the computer, or just crashing SL?
