Sorry if I missed this in another thread, searching for a few minutes didn't yiled something helpful.

I updated my Catalyst to the oct. 11 released 7.10, and now I see a funky SL error. If I turn my monitor off and come back a while later, i see my av, but the world seems to go away, and all info windows/menues in SL seem rotated 90 degrees onto another plane. (imagine looking at a 3d axis, and the menu is now perpendicular to the Z axis laid out on the xy plane)

Anyone heard of this from others, or noticed something like this before? Seems to only be affecting my SL, but I am no pc gamer. I don't get a SL crash, so I'm not even sure how to report this to JIRA (or if its even a SL issue really).

Thanks

eep forgot the stats...

X1950 ATI
Vista Premium
4 GB ram
Plenty of HDD space for SL...infact, both the Video and SL cache are in different drives.

The latest ATI drivers are 'funky' (tech term ;) ) on older cards especially agp ones it seems. I had to step back a revision (i use the Omega driver set and still had the issues), direct3d wouldnt work at all anywhere and SL was erm different, altho symptoms were not the same as yours.

I stepped back to Omega 3.8.330 and all was sweetness and light again. These are based off the official 7.1 driver set.

I would recommend you uninstall your 7.10 drivers and rollback to a previous version until ATI sort this out, its a pretty 'known' issue I think.

See ie here:

thanks! ATI and vista have been great for me until this ATI "upgrade"...think I'm headed back. I miss my wonderful skies.

It's best to stick with the 7.9 Drivers for awhile, I've had issues related to the 7.10's and it seems everyone is, the only problem with 7.9 is if you enable Catalyst A.I. it will cause Sculpties to look corrupted and the minimap to appear "tutti-fruitti" the Solution of course is to disabled Catalyst A.I. in the Catalyst Control Center's 3D Settings.

This is a known issue since Catalyst 7.5 and neither ATi or LL have done anything to resolve it, until then just don't use Catalyst A.I. (it's really not that good anyways).

Settings that work for me: (a.k.a Settings that won't crash SL)

Anti-Aliasing: Check box in "Use Application Settings"
Anisotropic Filtering: Check box in "Use Application Settings"
Catalyst A.I.: Check box "Disable Catalyst A.I."
MipMap Detail Level: Set wherever you think is best, personally mines set to Quality (textures at distance look less blurry)
Wait for Vertical Refresh: Set to "Off, unless application specifies"
Adaptive Anti-Aliasing: Doesn't matter what you set this too as you've already checked "Use Application Settings" under Anti-Aliasing, checking the box will have no effect unless you let Catalyst Control Center handle the Anti-Aliasing.

I'm running 7.10s on Vista Business with an x1950 Pro, was having a damn fine time crashing every time in inhaled. Then I disabled CatalystAI, and things have improved immensely.

Thanks for the tip!!
