Trying to run SL on a new Shuttle XPC ST61G4. Unfortunately although it has a nice NVidia FX5700LE card it still has a chipset by that lame company ATI.
With AGP acceleration turned on, the game very frequenty locks up. The mouse pointer will work for a while, but the only way out is to reset. The quickest way to make this happen is by setting the sun position a few times... having a change in lighting seems to affect it quite consistently.
There don't seem to be any new AGP drivers from Shuttle, and I couldn't find anything on ATI's site other than a message to get them from the manufacturer.
Any ideas appreciated.

Wow, I didn't know ATI even MADE motherboard chipsets.
I see that Shuttle's last drivers were released 7 months ago. That's not very good.
My first instinct is that you should look at returning your Shuttle and seeing if you can exchange it for one with an Intel chipset.
Other than that, I guess my advice would be to just not run in AGP mode. Or if you do, try to remember to set the sun position once every time as soon as you log in. That way, the lighting won't change. Does that help?

Post a message on this forum http://forums.sfftech.com/categories.cfm?catid=43This is where all the Shuttle geeks talk.

The lighting change is simply a catalyst - it can and will crash under any circumstances.
Will check that forum out, though I suspect it's just another in the line of SL/ATI bugs that only Linden and ATI know about.

Heh, I wonder if it would work fine if you stuck an ATI card in it? I mean, it stands to reason, that if an ATI video card's AGP support is broken... and an ATI motherboard chipset's AGP support is broken... that maybe they're NOT broken, but they've just taken it upon themselves to implement some other crazy standard rather than straight AGP? Just a thought.

Just a thought. Haha that would be something. For chipsets, I usually don't trust anything other than Intel. I had my history with VIA's and AMD's and I won't go that way anymore. I can care less about overclocking, I just want something stable. For video cards, I don't touch ATI's at all. nVidia all the way.

I thought about that as well But AGP acceleration is greyed out on all ATI cards anyway (Linden disabled it a month or two ago) and there doesn't seem to be any way to force it on... so at the moment it wouldn't make any difference.

Oh, right. Well, ATI motherboard chipsets are presumably pretty uncommon. It's POSSIBLE the Lindens haven't actually had one to test on. If you had an ATI card handy, perhaps you could persuade the Lindens to give you a means to forcing AGP mode?
