I recently purchased a Radeon HD4650 1Gb video card to replace my sluggish 5700 LE. I put in the updated drivers and was able to connect to SL. When I shut down for the day and tried to re log later on, I received the message telling me I needed to update my drivers or reinstall them. I did several times, even formatted my PC in an attempt to purge any and all Nvidia stuff on it. Alas, no help and I've been out of world for nearly a week, frustrated and actually a bit pissed off about the whole mess. Can anyone help me??

System specs might be useful.

Is it an AGP card?

What version driver are you using?

Is it a Sapphire?

Hi Suezanne;
thanks for your response.
It is an AGP Card running driver version 8.620.0.0 and it is not a sapphire.
It says ATI Avivo HD video and display technology.

I do hope you can help. I've been out of world nearly a week and I'm a wits end with the lack of support from SL ;-(

I spent hours researching someone's problems trying to use an AGP ATI card.

The short answer is that it's time to get a new computer. AGP is long obsolete. Support for AGP cards is low priority on the part of the chip makers, card makers, and software makers.

Do you have Catalyst Control Center installed? If so what version does Catalyst say that it is? If you have Catalyst installed, you should be able to get more specific info about your video card in the the Catalyst Control Center program.

Where did you get your video drivers from, from Microsoft, from ATI, or from the card manufacturer?

It's a shame we can't search for AGP in these forums. There's no excuse for setting the minimum search length to 4 for a computer related forum; there are so many three letter acronyms and initialisms that not being able to search for them is quite limiting.

As stated previously, "System specs might be useful." You can find lots of system information with the system information tool that comes in Windows. You could try the Can You Run It site at
http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/
for some system info

You should go to
jira.secondlife.com
and do a search for agp and search Google for phrases such as

"Second Life" ATI AGP

"Second Life "HD4650

System specs include such things as:

Brand and model of computer - if it's a homebrew or you've changed the motherboard, the motherboard model

Operating system version, including service pack level

Amount of ram

Type of processor

Brand and model of video card. ATI is a chip manufacturer. There should be a brand for the card, such as BFG or Sapphire or Sparkle.

Amount of video ram - which you have already supplied.

ATI does not support the AGP bus on their newer chipsets. Check the card manufacturer's website for a driver hotfix or patch.

@Romanza
The error message you got usually points to missing OpenGL support in your driver. Please run the following and check you have hardware accelerated OpenGL.
