Yes yes, i KNOW laptops aren't the greatest for gaming/Sl etc, but it's all i have the space for at the moment, so.. needs be. I'm looking for the cheapest system i can run sl on. Not bothered about awe inspiring windlight settings, don't care about being able to run sl at the highest level graphics with all bells and whistles etc. Atm, the damn thing just RUNNING would be a bonus and i kinda got use to playing at bare minimum graphics level, anyway. All i want is the ability to play, rez fairly quickly and be able to wander around rp sims. At least 2G memory. Any suggestions? I can't really spend a fortune, so Alienware and Mac are sadly out

If you can give a budget and what screen size you are looking for, I can make some suggestions.

The difference in your SL experience between a laptop and desktop for the same amount of money is probably worth setting a desktop on a cardboard box in a corner as opposed to a laptop on your lap as you sit on the couch.

Might give this a look: http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_6930G_Laptop_LX.AVB0X.001/version.asp?PID=MSI and Asus also make good laptops that are among the cheaper gaming rigs...unfortunately the least expensive G51 is not available in the UK.

I have an HP Pavilion DV9935nr that is 3 years old, It has been my primary SL machine since I bought it. No problems what so ever. I can max out SL graphics and not have any issues... When I'm doing building in OpenSim I can have 4 accounts logged into my server from the laptop... usually then I will back the graphics down a bit as I do start seeing issues.
So I would say just about any laptop on the market today that doesn't use shared memory graphics would run SL nicely. Just make sure the it has good cooling, laptop video cards get superhot running games and you need really good cooling to keep them from having meltdown.
