linux client (ubuntu), no sound in other apps

so I open the SL client, and all the sound in the application works okay. however, when i open a browser (firefox) outside of the client, none of the sound works in that browser, but still works in the SL client. any suggestions?

you might want to try posting in the linux forum there are a lot more knowledgeable people (in regards to linux) than me
