On my mac version of Second Life - beta - when i do a Get Info on the application, the version number is

1.3.3

Yet it loads version 1.4.2.

This the same with Windows?

Windows File Version on newview.exe (SL client):

File Version: 1.0.0.1
Product Version: 0.30

So.. I have no idea what these numbers mean. And I doubt if Linden Labs actually updates them on client updates.

Thank you Damanios for that information - guess it's moot.

It's a number that some compilers embed into the program stem at a specific location. It's simply read from the project setup files during the build process.

I guess the folks at LL just don't bother to set the numbers. Or they're using a compiler that doesn't bother putting the version info in the stem. Or both.

Most likely they just don't bother to set the number.

Which, with the compilers I'm most familiar with, would go a long way towards explaining why updates get foobarred or won't install properly half the time.
