One thing to try for starters would be to turn your entire computer system, modem, router, etc. off for a few minutes and then back on.
Try logging in to a different location when you try SL again.

Are you getting this message before you ever get to the log in screen? I've seen that message on occassion but it's always been after I've clicked the log in button on the log in screen.
If you are then before you log in drop down the "Edit" menu then choose "preferrences". On the General tab check the option to show log in location on log in screen. That will put a field next to your password field to enter a location to log into instead of your last location or home.
While you're in preferrences click on the Network tab and click the clear cache button. A pop up will tell you that your cache will be cleared on your next launching SL. Okay out of that. Then click on the Web tab and click the clear browser cache. I think you get one of those "are you sure" dialogs.......just confirm yes or okay. Then apply and close the preferrences box. Log out. Wait a few seconds then log back in. In the location box you just put on your log in screen type a region or sim that is different from both your last location and home........you can type Philudoria if you like. That's the manland sim I live on and it's almost always quiet without much in the way of lag.
Hope it helps.
