Hey :)

Currently stuck trying to get Sl to work on a HP G70 Notebook laptop.
Enough RAM - check
Service packs etc up to date - check

I did say that it did not meet minimum specs when i first tried running sl but i've since done a minimum requirement checker from the sl website and it passes the minimum requirements no problem but it's STILL crashing.

Any ideas? :( I have managed to run it on here a few days ago but now it's just not playing at all.

Specs are as follows: Microprocessor 2.16 GHz Intel Pentium dual core processor T3400
Microprocessor Cache 1 MB L2 Cache
Memory 3072 MB
Memory Max 3072 MB
Video Graphics Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Hard Drive 250 GB (5400 rpm)
Multimedia Drive Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Writer (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support
Display 17" WXGA+ High Definition BrightView Widescreen (1440 x 900)

If SL will run long enough to get you to the login screen, go to the Edit menu, select Preferences, then network and clear the cache there. Restart and see if it runs.

That's likely your problem right there. Support for Intel GMA's is spotty at best. Same goes for the performance of the GMA's themselves, even if the software support structure is perfect. Sometimes they just won't work, and that's that.

I hope you do get it sorted out, but honestly I wouldn't hold my breath. Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear.

Assuming it can work at all, here's what I'd suggest. The first thing you want to do is make sure you've got the latest drivers for all your devices, including the driver for that GMA, as well as the latest version of DirectX. Then go into your SL graphics preferences, hit Custom, disable every single option you can, especially the hardware options, and see if you can get it to run. If it works, then systematically re-enable each option until you find the one(s) that causes it to crash again. Make note not to use those options.

Next time when you buy a computer, make it a priority to get one with a real graphics card in it. Integrated GMA's should be avoided like the plague.

When the time comes, nVidia cards have a much better track record with SL than ATI cards, so you know.

Yup, you're sadly bang on :(

Sadly it's not my laptop, just borrowed while i'm away from home so when i found out about the graphics card, well.. x_x

It's running now, albiet with all the settings down to as low as they'll go , which is workable at least until i can get my own pc back :)
