Help getting a laptop that will run SL

Hi

I am getting a laptop but I want to make sure what I get will easily run SL. I looked in the knowledge base and got info on supported vid cards..but what about processor speed? or Ram..etc... Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Don't get anything with an ATI graphics card.

I have to disagree on the NO ATI blanket statement. I have a dell inspiron 600m, with ATI Mobile 9000 graphics and it works very well. I have had a couple of crashes, but no more than my NVIDIA GF4 4400 based desktop or my ATI 9800 PRO desktop. I use the dell provided drivers.

I would make sure you get the most RAM you can afford (512 or 1024, if possible) and try to get a better chip than a celeron. Also, if they offer a 5400 RPM drive, it is worth the extra money, as most are only 4200RPM.

If you get an ATI video card, you MAY have problems. If you get something with a GeForce FX video card, you won't. There are plenty of ATI users who don't have any problems and plenty who do. There are far, far fewer Nvidia users who have similar problems.

In your case, I would go with a Nvidia card, simply because I get the impression that you're not really interested in a lot of hassle.
