Just wanted to note that SL runs noticeably better on my system since I moved to Windows 7 from Vista. That shouldn't be a surprise I guess considering how Vista is. Camming around is smoother and overall performance seems to have improved. I'm running a Dell Studio 1735 laptop with 4GB memory.

It's great, ain't it? I went from XP, to Vista, back to XP because Vista was fail incarnate, then to Win7... Win7 WINS!!! \(^o^)/

glad to see that's it working for some people. i upgraded from vista, and since i installed windows seven, its been a nightmare. One problem after another, but they are being sorted, just need to get my latest problem sorted out asap, if a solution can be found.

I had to track down a driver I needed to get my fingerprint software to work again but aside from that it was pretty smooth. When I started to install Win 7 I was informed that several of my programs had to be uninstalled do to compatibility issues so I decided to do a clean install instead. I wonder, since there are compatibility issues with certain software, if the install could have missed detecting a driver or something that is causing you grief. Did you upgrade or do the clean install?

i tried to do an update to the 32-bit version, but it wouldn't let me so i had to do a clean install. My first problem was my graphics card. When i installed windows 7, it didn't detect my graphics card, which is an nvidia geforce 9600 gs. I then went through the process of trying all the latest drivers for it, but they wouldn't install as there was no hardware to install onto, apparently. I then tried custom drivers, which should have worked, but didn't. I then un-installed the standard vga graphics card and then upon restarting it picked it up, but it didn't the first time i did this after the install, strange. My latest problem is in second life where i get the "Unable to upload asset" message when trying to upload scripts. I was told that my firewalls were preventing the upload, but after turning the firewalls off, the problem still exists.

i liked vista, i never had a problem with it, okay it was a bit slow, but that was it.

I just read your other post Chris. It works on their wireless network but not on the other one (at home I assume). Almost has to be something with the network or it's configuration doesn't it? Did you try to run SL as administrator just for the heck of it? I don't know if user access control could have anything to do with it somehow but that is easy enough to try. I really don't have a clue - wish I could be more helpful.

I see that WIndows 7 includes support for .mov files in Media Player. Does that mean we no longer have to install QuickTime to see video in SL?

*hope hope*

You are lucky. I am using GTX285. It work nice with Vista 32. I tried it in Window 7 both 32bit and 64bit. And also few latest driver. I have a notable fps drop 60% and sound system disruption when SL viewer running. I tried some other 3 party viewer, some of them even cannot produce music.

It is now mess me up with install, reinstall and roll back everything. It seem work well or not is all depend on lucky. Or may be my card not on neither mimi requirement of recommand requirement

I've had zero problems with Windows7 and Secondlife. It worked seemlessly. I get much better preformance in heavily populated areas and area with thousands of scipts.

I've recently gone over to Windows 7. To begin with it worked perfectly - excellent graphics and smooth movement. I even posted in residents answers to say how good it was. The emphasis now is on WAS. After a few days, lines of coloured squares appeared all over the screen and Second Life has just become a jumble of flashing lights and random jagged flashing shapes (no, I'm not talking about Goguen Sandbox!).

I looked up Windows 7 bugs on the net and it seems others have had this problem. It seems that 7 has damaged the graphics card.

I bought a new computer that has the home edition of Windows 7 and have been having crash/blue screen issues when using SL? Does anyone recommend upgrading it to Professional?

I had to use compatablilty mode (the virtual XP machine in Pro version), But SL runs really well using that. Without it I kept freezing or near freezing

Funny how I've been running the RC version of Win 7 64 bit and have had no issues whatsoever...

I have a slight Problem here with Win 7 and the website.

Strange ...
Everytime i install Firefox on Win7 and try to login into the secondlife.com website my PC freezes. Always at the point where the secure login gets loaded.

Internetexplorer runs it fine Oo
In XP ( 32 bit ) it runs fine with firefox

Also strange, when this happens my wireless adapter ( a USB Dongle) control LED turn black (So hes switched off ), if i dis- and reconnect him to the port the LED turns green again. PC is still frozen thought.

Besides this issue i have no problems so far. And i think Win7 is a good one.

It depends on the windows 7 class and type you have installed. Personally with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and 64 bit, I'm noticing no real issues on the 32 bit, I did however have a graphics related issue with the 64 bit and nvidia drivers but have sense resolved that. Overall I'm quite impressed with the way the game, and things in general run on 7. Those that are having difficulties just have to give it some time for drivers to get released properly for 7 that actually fully work.

It's usually a matter of getting the correct video driver. Windows Update may not install one that works with SL, so you'll need to go straight to the manufacturer. Either nvidia.com or ati.com. Maybe the computer manufacturer's site if you're installing it on a laptop.

Older ATI cards (pre-HD2000 series) can be an additional hassle. ATI is no longer updating those cards and doesn't support them under Windows 7, so you'll need to find the appropriate Vista driver and use it.

AGP based HD series cards aren't supported either, and are another set of problems. There's a driver hotfix on ATI's site, or maybe from the card manufacturer's web site, but if you have an AGP based system, you should seriously consider replacing it.

I'm having the same problem. My husband running XP can see Treet TV fine and I can't. Its driving me nuts.

Someone earlier said that Win 7 included support for .mov, maybe the support is interfering somehow?

That's pretty common. Most noticeable overheating, especially notebooks, and failing mainboards. Also graphic cards and memory modules (higher risk if overclocked). Harddisks will fail over time depending on mechanical stress (eg. heavy swapping). Software kills all kind of stuff. You have been warned :p
