SL crashes on startup

Recntly had my laptop die, so I'm now running everything off my HTPC. I install SL onto it, but everytime I run SL it crashes before even reaching the login screen. The SL crach logger gives no details as to why.
The HTPC is running a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H main board which has an intergrated ATI HD 3200 graphics card. I know there are some probs with the ATI drivers and SL, but changing card is not an option I have.
Any suggestions?

What operating system is it, how much ram, and what version of video driver?

Any suggestions? Omg mine has been doing this for 2 weeks now, only my pc totally crashes. I got no answers here on forums, and have done everything under the sun to try and figure it out. Even new directx download, vid card drivers, active x, virus checker, registry clean, i mean, you name it, Ive done it. It hangs up at about the middle of the log in bar, and then bam, crash. I dont know what specs matter, nothing has changed since 2 weeks ago.

I should have asked what version of SL.
There is a more recent version of Catalyst so you might try that.
If that doesn't work then I'd try some other viewers.
I'd try the current LL Release viewer, the Release Candidate, the Cool Viewer, and the Nicholaz clients.

The newer drivers coming out for both major graphics card makers are evidently missing something in OpenGL that SL requires. You might try installing an earlier driver version rather than the most recent.......that goes for both ATI and nVidia. I don't have ATI so I can't refer you to any particular driver but I know the driver that works for my nVidia card was release about mid July of this year..........so look for a driver before mid July release date. If that helps.
And ATI has a very nice utility for driver unintallation..........use it before you install any driver you intend to install on your computer. *wish nVidia would take notice*.

Ooookay, I updayed the drivers, no dice. But I then remembered that last time I updated the drivers I had to tinker round with the Catalyst settings to get most of my Source base games running. So a half hours tinkering andSL is running. It still comes up with multiple "Unknown driver" messages when I start it up, but it runs smoothly. Ta muchly for the advice guys |

One thing on ATI cards that caused problems with SL is the Catalyst A.I. I don't recall just what problems its caused.
