Orbiting around an object with extreme zoom

Hopefully this isn't a known issue but I can't find it below.

Most of the time when I crash it's when I'm zoomed in REALLY close to something and attempt to orbit around it. Even if I don't get a crash, the camera is extremely jumpy most of the time (especially when orbiting fast)--it's never like that normally. I'm not sure if orbiting close into a large object does this also, but orbiting around smaller ones does. I'd rather not build stuff large and then shrink them all the time (only on initial creation) mostly because I make alot of spontaneous decisions about when to make minor changes and I don't want to have to grow and shrink stuff all the time.

Or, maybe I'm too lazy.

(btw by rotating I mean using the ctrl-alt-drag method of rotating using the mouse)

Ok seriously....nobody else has this problem?

It just happened about 5 times for me....kinda frustrating. Hmm... it only really happens when I'm moving the camera around alot.

Do you have an AMD processor and ATI graphics card?

If so, this is a known issue with AMD and ATI...try upgrading your, uhh, motherboard drivers, I think? Colin Linden posted about it in another forum...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I wish...unless when my motherboard was replaced they put an AMD in there instead of a Pentium IV...but that's highly unlikely. lol  I do have ATI, though.

I also get alot of crazy rainbow colored blinking sometimes, I think during sunset/sunrise. If it was just the occassional crash I'd probably leave drivers alone but with that plus the rainbow seizure effect maybe I'll try and figure out what's going on.

Apparently this isn't a common problem, anyway. Is there a good FAQ troubleshooting thread somewhere I should know about?

Well I have this same issue, with no crashes and I'm running a P4 and G4 Ti4200 128mb.

I have exactly the same issues, Garoad!

* Crashes when zooming (like when editing an av's appearance or just zooming).

* All land and objects flash in bright primary colours. Sometimes gets "stuck" with everything painted bright yellow, green, cyan, magenta, etc.

I have a P4, Win XP Pro, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. I'm using ATI Catalyst 3.7 driver (the latest).

I've heard of other ATI users having crash problems, but this is the first time I've heard of another user getting the flashing colours problem.

I have almost exactly the same hardware as Cubey, and that's definitely the same problems.

But Charlie has a different video card, so I guess we can rule video drivers out. Hmm..

I've got a GeForce 4 MX 420, WinXP Pro -- and the land occasionally flashes white for me too. No funky colors, unless you count the fact that sometimes when I'm touching something the screen will flash the color of my aura. Anyone else get that?

yup got that too, and the occasional black land spots.

The black usualluy happens to the side of me view on the edge and when it happens and I turn straight on to it, it goes away and normal land appears, then if I turn again, that same spot is black again.

No I'm not being sarcastic, just dont know any other way to describe it. I was able to catch one of these spots in a bug report screen shot, so I sent it in.
