I recommended a friend into SL, he has a paying account and for a while I was recieving lindens for that.

Then they stopped. Is this normal? I can't seem to find information on it.

Perhaps I just didn't look in the right spot, can someone give me a bit of help?

The referral thing is two 500L payments, then a final 1000L, provided that they stay enrolled that long. You'll find a refer a friend link on the blue bar at the left of your account page.
