Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I could not seem to find the answer to my problem.

I can start and explore and use second life with no problems at all. However, when I exit the program, my computer always restarts by itself. Always.

Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem?

I am currently using a P4 2Ghz, 512 Ram, NVIDIA Geforce4 MX 440 for display, running on Win XP.

Thanks in advance for your reply and have a good day ahead :)

Wow, I've not heard of that before, nor have I ever expierenced the problem! Does the machine give you any warning that its shutting down? Or does it just restart the moment you exit SL? Have you scanned for Virii recently? Is there any kind of error message?

Never heard of this one before...

But my first suspicion would be driver issues. When the OS goes bye-bye, its usually low-level device handling problems.

I'd go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and make sure you have the latest drivers for their chipset. And I'd check drivers on the nVidia card and any sound card you might have, to make sure they're up-to-date.

Good luck...

One other possibility is your power supply. Make sure it provides enough current, since graphics cards put quite a load on the power supply. Your nVidia documentation probably tells you what is required.

I agree, check the drivers, however, I doubt that PSU would be the problem since the restart only occours on exiting secondlife. If the PSU were not supplying enough voltage, the game itself would crash, as that is the highest stress point on the Vid card, and when the VPU would be pulling the most voltage! Another thought, I know there were a few virii out there that could cause shutdowns, not sure if that is the issue, but I'd definatly run a virus scanner (make sure your patterns are up to date, however) and perhaps check for ad/spy ware. Again, without more info, its kind of hard to diagnose!

All of the above and heartily reccomend scanning aggressively for a virus. I had a boot sector infection one time and it did this. I ended up having to reformat to get rid of it.

hey everyone! Thank you SO much for the reply :)

I've updated my sound driver and crossed my fingers and exited SL. I really did expect the program to crash and restart as usual. 15 seonds later, my computer didnt even wheeze. One minute later, I am surfing around and using memory intensive programs like photoshop. Needless to say, I'm cured! :)

Thanks for replying and answering my question. Needless to say, I'll be continuing my trial and subcribing to SL 100% :)

See you guys around!
