Hi all.

I've just installed and registered Second Life, but I'm unable to log in. I get the error message 'Unable to establish a secure connection to the login server. Often this means that your computer's clock is set incorrectly...' I suspect it has to be a problem with a setting(s) with my network connection and/or firewall. I'm running Windows XP with SP2 and Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have had this problem a couple of years ago with an older system, whereby 'certifcates' were showing as being out of date. Check that your BIOS date is correct, Windows is reporting the correct date (you have to do both), and that your CMOS battery is ok (that way to check is leave your PC off for 8 hours while you sleep, or longer and recheck the BIOS date). If the BIOS date keeps resetting itself, the battery needs changing.

I have not personally had any problems with router or Windows firewalls, but not all setups are the same. Are you using a proxy connection? That would need to be setup in SL Preferences, defining the exact port your proxy is set to, also the firewalls. You would probably already know this when you setup windows on the PC the first time and connected to the internet. Run Adware software and make sure no nasty programme is blocking ports in favour of the ones it wants to use.

One of the latest (just before the easter holidays) 'sercurity' updates from windows (sorry didn't stay long enough on my PC to see the actual number) caused SL to fail loggin, you may also try a restore to see if you have downloaded and installed it, and if that is the cause.
