I have a great new desktop with 4 gigs of RAM, a fast Nvidia graphics card, etc. SL was running great on it! I loved it. Then one day I went to open SL and the app freezes as it's opening. It doesn't freeze the PC, just the app freezes.
I uninstalled SL, and reinstalled. Same thing. Freezes. So, then I tried an older version of SL. Nope, same thing.
I can't figure it out. Every time I go to open SL it says it knows the program crashed the last time and asks if I want to send a note to Linden. I've tried saying Yes and No, and still the program freezes.
Nothing has changed on my desktop!
SL still runs fine on my older laptop, but I loved using it on that desktop 'cause it ran so much better. And damn, I should be able to use it on that PC with all it's new hardware!!!
Thanks so much!!!! Hope someone knows the solution to get it running again.

From: Chosen Few Specs? Driver versions? OS? No can fixy plobrems with no knowing informazion. Ah yes! ZT, Intel Core, Quad 2.67 GHZ 4 gigs of RAM Nvidia graphics card, 9400, I think Windows XP Professional Like I said, SL was working great, then one day it wouldn't open any more. The graphics were wonderful when it was working, and I experienced no lag at all. It was great! Now, whenever I try to open SL it starts to opens, then freezes, totally. After uninstalling, and reinstalling it still knows for some reason that it hadn't worked properly the last time. So, I'm wondering if it's a problem in the windows registry? Thanks!!!!

Have you cleared the cache?
Edit > Preferences > Network
Frequently this kind of thing seems to be caused by something awful in the cache folder.
Also, try changing your starting location and see if that makes any difference.

Seems to be system related, therefore start by updating all your drivers.. use a regsitery cleaner, to get rid of dead/corrupt entries. Check your network card drivers. Assuming you are using a router, check the security logs, see if your connection is being flooded, or 'other' users are borrowing your bandwidth. When SL is running, use Task manager to see what other programme and or processes are running at the sametime, you may have an exploit stealing cpu cycles etc. Run Scan Disk on your HD (you will have to reboot your PC to allow that to work). Any bad sectors will show up in the report. Check your system for overheating, SL can tax your system, including the Power Supply. If you have recently updated your virus checker, make sure it doesn't scan the SL cache folders, that will sloooowwwww your system down. Clear the SL cache and run defrag.
