The video is cute, but system specs would be more useful.

You can get some system specs in the SL viewer, in the Help menu, About Second Life option.

You can also get some system info at "Can You Run It?" http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

For your problem, it might be useful to know what kind of internet service you have, whether you have a router, wired or wireless network, and other connection related info.

You might want to make sure you have your firewall set to allow SecondLife.exe properly, and to make sure that your ports are opened properly.

cable, dsl, or what?

You can do a tracert or other similar test. http://suezannecbaskerville.wordpress.com/second-life-packet-loss-from-the-sl-kb/

Have you done a forum search for phrases like "unable move"?

Have you looked in the knowledge base to try to find your problem?

Are you in a college dorm?

Have you tried connecting wired instead of wireless?

Have you tried moving your wireless router?

Do you share your network with others? If so, do any of them use SL?

If you're under 18 you need to be in the teen grid.

Even if the OP is in the teen grid the same problem will persist if it's a connection issue..........which it sounds like it may be.

Without being able to illiminate the wireless/hard wired thing it's near impossible to suggest much more without simply throwing out suggestions with the futile hope of stumbling on a "fix".

But to the OP.........if your mother will allow you, try resetting your router and modem. Shut down all the computers connected to the router then unplug both the router and modem from their electrical source for about 5 minutes. Plug back in and let all the LED lights settle down (about 30 secs) then boot your computer again and try SL. Hopefully that is all your issue is............but, it's a shot in the dark so don't be too disappointed if it doesn't work.

Judging from your video, Your draw distance is rather high. Doing this causes your computer to "sort and track" all that stuff. Try going to preferences and turning your draw distance down some. It will help. Fiddle with the other settings too.

Unlike the other game in your video, all of the content in SL is not loaded onto your computer. It is streamed to you live, hence the latency in busy locations. On top of that most of the content is made by hobbyests, and not optimized as is has to be in production games.

Part of using SL is dealing with the latency and setting up your system to efficiently deal with the environment.

I would start by making sure all of your drivers are up to date, especially your graphics card drivers. Then make your computer run as efficiently as possible, turning off all bloatware and other unneeded background things.

Best of luck, perhaps look at making SL run smoothly as a challenge. =)

Maybe you should ask your mom what kind of internet connection you have.

It seems a bit odd to be willing to take the time to make videos of "not moving" and caption them, but not willing to go to the knowledge base and read the article on "why can't my avatar move".

Here's that article:

From: someone
I can't walk (I can only rotate in place), my avatar keeps moving several minutes after I try to stop, and the mini-map turns red (or objects and the terrain disappear).

All of these are signs that you are (at least partially) disconnected from Second Life. While you're logged into Second Life, you're connecting to several different parts of the Second Life servers (for the region you're in, your inventory, your cash balance, etc.) It's possible to get disconnected from some parts of Second Life and not others, resulting in your avatar getting stuck.

* When this happens, you need to close and restart Second Life to get reconnected.
* If this happens consistently after a certain period of time (like a few minutes), it's likely there's other software on your computer (firewall or internet security software) that's disconnecting Second Life.
* If you're using wireless, you may want to try a wired connection.
* If this happens when someone else at your location tries to log onto Second Life, you might need to tweak your network a little to let multiple computers use Second Life.

It could be the wireless part your described, or it could be farther along. There could be a problem in the equipment between your home and Linden Lab.

You may have Window's built in firewall and security built in to the LInksys router both.

With an attitude like that, it's wonder you even got one response. If you know what's not causing the problem like you claim then I'm sure you can figure out what is causing your problem.

Seems you have all the answers so fix it.

You haven't tried hard wiring to your router and, as far I can tell, you haven't reset your router and modem. Those two procedures fix about 80% of loss of connection to the server issue.

There's not a lot anyone can do for you if you refuse any suggestions or, in your case, cannot try..........no one can call your mom and ask her for you.

Alright, I just got Second Life again after taking a long break.

Anyway, I've gotten a new computer since then, and obviously some settings need adjusting.

Now, before you ask:

Nvidia 8800
4 Gigs of ram
9550 Quad-core Processor 2.20 ghz
No router, direct connect to my PC from modem.
Windows Firewall has made it an exception.
Are there any special ports I need to open?
I have AVG and Windows Defender, would either of those be preventing Second Life?

Every time I log on, I'm either stuck or my character moves in one direction forever, and I get booted off.
Any ideas?
