I have a dual boot because some applications just don't work in vista 64, but I figure I try running SL in it as it will allow me to run blender and a few other programs without having the slowdown issue. However, if I run photoshop 7 (yes I know its old) it loses connection and I have to reset the network adapter. To make it even weirder, it will actually resume connection when I repair it. I'm pretty sure this is not hardware as this only happens in vista.

My first response is, device drivers. Make sure you have the most up to date drivers for your NIC card.

Ok, yeah, they were pretty old, was using Microsoft 2 year old drivers, now using the intel ones, thanks :).

Though I do notice if you switch the desktop enhancment mode off while running it can still do it, like if ya run a really old app and it gives that message about how it does not support the enhanced desktop of vista, ah well, it works if I leave that alone

I have this problem intermittantly too. I use Vista 32. My NIC is updated. I did find that locking down my router and turning off wireless connections did help..........but it still happens at least once every third or fourth day. I even put my router and modem on a separate surge protector so it's easy to reset them without having to physically unplug each and then plug them back in.......just switch off on the plug strip and back on 5 mins later. I talked to Linksys support a couple weeks ago and the tech seemed a little familar with the problem and walked me through the locking down of my router. She also said that it may need a firmware update, but not to do that right now (guess it's tricky.....I've never done it myself).

It looks like that will probably be my next step.

Vista's newest update on 64bit has caused some problems for me. it's a MS-related issue.

Have you installed all of Adobe's service patches for Photoshop 7?

I'm surprised Vista is compatible with PS7 at all really, given the Aero issues with some CS2 applications, but PS v.7.0.1 is on the compatibility list since Jul 2007.

I've got a feeling PS's networked anti-piracy service is interfering with your network adapter.

ETA: You could try running PS7 in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode I suppose, to see if that makes a difference.
